Dumaguete City is the capital city of Negros Oriental, Philippines. It is called the City of Gentle People. It is a laid back University-town with a charming seafront boulevard. Dumaguete City is a good place to relax for a few days to a decade.

Dumaguete City may not be as urbanized as the neighboring cities like Bacolod City, Iloilo City and Cebu City but what makes it special is its people.

Fresh air in the morning and gentle breeze in the evening. It can be visited anytime of the day. The Boulevard allows you to relax, to reflect and to pray. This place is perfectly placed in a good setting.

One thing this place can give you is the calmness of your mind with its scenery, still waters, lights and clean environment. What more can you ask for.

On a side note many mani (peanuts) vendors is all over the place just in case you get hungry.

In the morning many joggers, health and body conscious are present around the Boulevard – Both locals and foreigners. This is a good spot for jogging for it has a roadway designed for pedestrian usage with an above average quality of landscaping and scenery.

A buko juice can quench your thirst after a long run. Found at the end of the roadway.

Rizal Boulevard is more alive at night time. With its arranged lights and gentle waves splashing the shores indicates a start of a good night.

Just across the boulevard there are lots of restaurants you can choose

If you don’t want to be in a restaurant you can choose to have an open air dinner offered by the locals which they call in local term (Tempurahan) means Tempura store.

The tagged line of Dumaguete is #DumaGeTmE which is still located in the midst of the Rizal Boulevard. This became one of the famous landmarks of the city that you can never say that you've been to Dumaguete City without a selfie with this signage.

Dumaguete City is a University town. Famous amongst these school is Silliman University.

Silliman University is one of the best, if not the best University campus in the Philippines. The beauty and serenity of Silliman is so real and will make you asked, Is the University a part of the city or the city part of the University?

The answer is easily interchangeable since Silliman University makes Dumaguete City what it is. It easily characterizes the city in the same manner as Oxford or Harvard University.

Silliman University is the first American University in the Philippines, established in 1901 as Silliman Institute. It was named after Dr. Horace Silliman who donated $10,000 to build the school. It became a University in the 1930's.

Outside of Silliman University Anthropology Museum

Most of the visitors of the university, initially wanted to visit the Silliman University Anthropology Museum and roam around the campus. Just a few minutes away there is a Presbyterian Church which is architecturally aesthetic fronting the open amphitheater.

Walking around the campus, you'll met several foreign students in casual attire. Students here can even wear slippers. We learned that there are about 300 foreign students here from several countries. Students here love the laid back lifestyle of people.

The school has the famous Anthropology museum and a library that is the biggest in Asia and much more.

Dumaguete has a lot more to offer this is just some part of it. They say in writing you can only share experience, pictures and detailed information of your travel but you can never share the feeling you felt while you were there. So come and visit my hometown and be amazed by the reason why is it tagged as…

It looks like a very relaxing place. It's okay that it's not urbanized. Between cities, there has to be a place where people can just enjoy nature to unwind and get away from the noise and pollution of urban life.

Kaka-miss ng dumaguete.
