THE CHRISTMAS COLOURS

in #my-niche7 years ago (edited)

Christmas is a worldwide annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. it is the most widely celebrated event in the world. Several concepts and ideas are exclusively associated with the season, one of which is the choice of colours that are being used to decorate the event. There are several colours associated with Christmas, but the most prominent are Red, Green and Gold. These colours come from Western traditions and customs and have specific significance in the Christmas season.

RED

The use of Red as a Christmas colour originates from the apples of the paradise tree.

They represent the fall of Adam in the plays. Red is also a colour of the Holy berries, being used as a representation of the Blood of Jesus when he died on the cross.

GREEN

Evergreen plants have been used for numerous years to decorate buildings during the ancient long dark winter seasons. The plants reminded people that there would be spring again after the long dark and dreadful winter season.

The Romans exchanged evergreen branches in January as a sign of good luck. The ancient Egyptians took palm branches into their houses during the season.

One of the most common use of Green at Christmas is The Christmas Tree, representing the Paradise Tree in the garden of Eden.

GOLD

The gold colour represents the colour of the Sun and Light. Both are very important in the dark and in winter. Red and gold are also the colours of the fire that is needed to keep warm.

Gold was also one of the gifts that wise men presented to the family of Jesus at his birth. It is also traditionally the colour that represents the star that led the wise men to the birthplace of Jesus.

Other colours that represents Christmas are Silver (used sometimes in place of gold), White (often representing purity, peace and the snow of winter) and Blue. Blue dyes in medieval times, were more expensive than gold. It was worn mainly by royalties. It also represents the colour the sky (or heaven).
