Is it possible to control serious gambling addiction? If so, how?

Addictions, be it gambling or other addictive habit we so find people struggling with, can be control or seized from. Addicts often believe or feel like the habit controls them( which is totally wrong as it violates the power of choice).

Addiction puts us in an emotional state which makes us think with our emotions, thereby hiding the reality, which is, anytime you gamble, you made a conscious decision to stake something to get something better or big, although the process seems automatic and you feel helpless about it.

Most gamblers are losers, this compounds the emotional tremors and they tell themselves "I must get back my losses"

Let's look at it from another stand point. When a gambler wins more than he loses he is termed a Professional Gambler (which is a good thing to most) and this knowledge empowers him to repeat same action and thus always get similar results.

All professional gamblers started as a simple gambler (except you were born with cards or dice in your hand). They grew pass the controlling human emotion and stick to a predefined plan and strategy, irrespective of the result of the season.

On the other hand, gamblers refuse to learn from their mistakes because they are unaware of it, doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result.

To wrap it all up, how you look at gambling is of paramount importance.

If you defined is as bad habit, then you stop yourself from finding other possibilities and the best you can do is avoid it and hope to lead a gambling free life. Or you see it like what it really is, a game which with the right discipline you can have control over it, separating it from all other life aspects. It will make you a better person with strong Emotional Quotient.
