7-day wayback music challenge: Day 6 – Duke’s Travels - Genesis
@steevc nominated me for this challenge, and I do accept as I’m a mad music freak and he knows it.
This band were my introduction to progressive music, there’s no doubt about that.
When the Duke album was released in 1980, the band were in that transition period of part pop, part progressive. In my opinion it was all to go downhill with the subsequent album, ‘Abacab’ but everyone has their own opinions on bands and music.
‘Duke’s Travels’ is a jump back to the older progressive days, and I have memories of playing lots of golf with my school friend David and humming this tune away in the back of my mind. I was quite a golf addict then, but don’t find time to play anymore.
I nominate @thedarkhorse for this challenge!

Didn't know this song, In fact didn't know the more progressive side of Genesis..sorry :) But I do like it....
Genesis were a progressive band in the 1970's and then transfomed into more of a pop band, and became enormous in the 1980's. There's aspect of both 'Genesis's' which I like but the former is more to my tastes.
Duke's Travels is excellent. They were going to make a 20 minute type song sequence out of some of the tracks I believe, like a concept side of the LP but then they didn't want it to be too much like Supper's Ready. Alone Tonight is very majestic for a song about loneliness, or at least the longing in it is parading as something of great value. Behind The Lines I prefer on this album rather than on Phil's Face Value.
Thanks for the post, chops!
Nice song. I like Genesis. Probably more of the later stuff that you don't care as much for though. I just got an email the other day with a presale code for Phil Collins concert tickets. I tucked it away thinking I might want to try and go. We will see what the wife says though :)
I really like music, but pay less attention to being ready who sings that song
Enjoy @slobberchops
