Four Year Strong - Enemy of the World

Label: Decaydance/Universal Motown

Genre: Pop Punk/Melodic hardcore

For your consideration, I present to you Four Year Strong's major label debut Enemy of the World. This melodic pop punk record was released in March 2010 to a somewhat lukewarm reception by critics, although it is their most commercially successful album and much-loved by many fans, myself included. This is actually their third studio album, not including Explains it all which was a covers album of the kind of songs the band grew up listening to (it's very good, worth checking out for sure).

I've been a fan of FYS since around 2007 with the release of their second album Rise or Die Trying, and the difference between the second and third is very noticeable. Both are excellent examples of melodic hardcore, but there's a polish to Enemy of the World that's definitely lacking in Rise or Die Trying. It's not portraying a narrative like other Pop Punk records such as Say Anything's timeless album ...Is a Real Boy, but each track is a solid head banging anthem in their own right. Some of my top tracks from the album include "It Must Really Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now", "Wasting Time (Eternal Summer)" and "Enemy of the World", with the music video for the first track down below.

This album is also notable as the final one to feature keyboardist Josh Lyford before his departure in April 2011. In their early days, the band had quite a few members come and go, but Josh was the final departure before what I guess is the "final" lineup of the band, consisting of Alan Day, Dan O'Conner, Jake Massucco and Joe Weiss. I managed to pre-order this album when it was released, and got a pretty damn cool signed poster to go along with it (which I couldn't find to take a photo of sadly).
