One of the most mystique music 'types' for me is Reggae, it's got that summer feel and almost a word of protest. That last thing is more because the lyrics and the subjects Bob Marley sang about.
Without a doubt he is the man who is names in one breath with Reggae.
For me as a bassplayer Reggae is such a cool kind of music to play. The timing and accents in the music is just awesome.
I remember when I bought a compilation CD at a dutch store called "De Makro" this store was more a very large grocery store which also sold some music. The CD was a CD box of 5 CD's with all kinds of reaggae songs, a bit of Bob Marley and other populair artists.
For instance "Clint Eastwood and General Saint" with "Stop that train"
But there was also this very old song of Desmond Dekker "The Israelites" ....
One thing they got all in common, that layed back feel with the accents on the guitar and bass.
Often I have heared that UB40 wasn't Reggae , it was too commercial, but I do think they got Reaggea on the map for the big crowd. The reached the charts with their modern reggae.
One song that also reached the charts all over the world was "I don't wanna dance" by Eddy Grant. Although it (for me) was more of a popy tune than really a Reggae vibe.
Do you remember any Reggae tracks?
Have a great day
