That guy who plays bass in a steel drum band shares live performance highlights of a 50th birthday bash after a coffee and donut fix! Part 1 of 2

in #music7 years ago (edited)

FIRST! More important than music, steamit politics, btc, flagging wars and a generous whale's plagiarized profile pic, is my coffee and donut. Especially the donut.

That's right, the end is near. That coffee and donut GIF you see above is a sign of more food related commentary to come. Me and the guys in the band eat at lots of interesting places. Also, the quality of catering we encounter at our performances is always interesting and worthy of discussion. Let me know if you have a question.

I will include a food section/review in my future posts about my performances with #SteelParade and big band too (coming soon).

Broadcast 1's Highlights:

Here we are starting the party music with appropriate volume levels. Yes, we are right here in the host's living room.

  • We start off at 02:51 with a rhythm intro to the soca tune called, "Marianne". It is one of our favorite tunes to start out with. Marianne has soca, craziness, funk, harmonies, and blues all wrapped up into one song.
  • Catch our funky rendition of "I Can See Clearly Now" at 10:33. We usually play it with a reggae feel. The original version is by Johnny Nash, just click on his name to here the original on that weird video platform that doesn't use Steem.
  • Now we do a reggae feel for "Sunshine On My Shoulder" at 16:12, a John Denver tune.

HEY YOU! What kind of guitar do you have? Post an image of your guitar in the comments with a brief explanation and I'll give your comment a 100% upvote. No links. No spam.

  • We actually know two John Denver songs and we play his song "Country Road" at 21:40. We do an island version to honor Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Be sure to check out all of those versions too.
The camera angle was obstructed by a fuzzy couch pillow for a song or two. I thought it would be kind of cool:
  • I'm sorry, the camera angle gets worse, but at 27:17 we perform the Rolling Stones tune, "Beast of Burden." We rarely play this song and we've been playing it for a long time. Check out my harmony, it took lots of practice to be able to sing and play the bass for some of those vocal parts.
  • We perform an original called, "DonkeySkin" at 33:12 and it turns into an exciting instrumental. FLASHBACK!!! We made a video for this song back in 2015: https://youtu.be/cVsPgWyUNV8

... that dude had a weird bra.

  • Thankfully, at 40:20, I fix the camera angle to lose the pillow hair to gain the DRUMMER VIEW! We perform, "Stand By Me". That's our Steemit neighbor Max. Did you see his awesome drum solo in my previous post? Click here to see his live drum solos from our previous performance.
  • We perform another Steel Parade original instrumental at 49:34. It's called "Pleasy". It's usually a soca feel, but this time we make it funky. I make the bass busy. Is that actually funky though?
  • During a drum and bass break in the same song at 55:02, our Steemit neighbor @steelparade moves the camera to an angle that lets you see the steel drum better.

Thanks for following and thanks for reading. Even bigger thanks for upvoting even though I'm not a whale. Another big thanks for upvoting without a whale upvoting first.

Finally, a thanks to all those guitar players that are going to share an image and description of their axes. Drummers are welcome too.
