In part 1 of this series, I discussed the ways to use numbers and addition to help chart out melodies for 4 popular songs. In this post, I will use addition to discover a new chord.

What happens when you add C major and D major together?

C major: x 3 2 0 1 0
D major: x 5 4 2 3 2

dark F minor chord: x F Ab C Eb Gb

You get a dark and mysterious F minor chord. Getting my hands to stretch between the 2nd and the 8th fret is nearly impossible, so I made an alternate version of the chord and left the G string open. To hear the dark F minor chord, scroll to the last video.

While I played the darker chord, I also tried a more cheery version of the F chord (x 8 7 0 6 0). After some mucking around, I ended up writing a song called Steem Life. I've included recordings of the song, a walkthrough of the chords, a free download, and the lyrics with the chords if you want to play and sing along.

The lyrics of the song are inspired by the aquatic references I see as a steemit curator.
