Fall Migrations (New Song & Video)

in #music8 years ago

This season is a reminder that the cold temperatures are coming. And with it the slowing of growth, movement, and the slower perception of time.

Despite the fact that October is my favorite month, there is a bittersweet aspect to this autumnal change. You get the mystical crimson, gold, and citrus color just before the show ends.

This change presents us with a choice: savor the fleeting aspects of nature, or ignore them to awaken in the winter with the stark white and brown bark with occasional pine poking through.

I live in New England and we live through all four seasons for better or for worse.

This external reality is sinking into my compositions and you'll hear a slight shift towards a slower more classical feel that expresses my love for classical music. It also gives me a way to let the migration of seasons flow through so I can see and appreciate all the Fall has to offer.

I won't delve into the details with this composition, but I will share that it uses A, D, and E a lot. It is a simple melody, but the more interesting sections were inserted by accident. It turns out I kept messing up one note and spiraling into an improvized section, which meant all other instruments needed to follow suit.

I also wanted to take a stab at using stock footage to convey a different perspective on the piece and even include the sounds of the birds to underscore that this piece is very much inspired by the change and beauty seen in nature. These tracks were recorded one at a time as well.

All stock footage is from pexels.com and the resulting video is only viewable from Steemit or if someone shares the url.

This is beautiful! You have really achieved that mix of simplicity and freshness. It's great how you added in the more unexpected moments - the accidents - more or less seamlessly. Keeps things interesting yet not jarring. Are you planning to record this with live instruments? That'll be great.

Also, kudos for editing that video together as a bonus!

Live instruments would be a treat. I may have a resource for that.

Very nice melody and technique on the piano. Would you like to join us at Open MIc Night on Steemit?
