Thanks for replying back!! Yep, it has to be recorded live in a video the same week as the current contest.. (this keeps people from just copying someone's youtube video and claiming it as their own) The contest runs weekly.. Sunday through Friday. So you would actually want to enter on Sunday since this week's contest ends today.
You can see how it's done by looking at the entries .. just search the #openmic tag. After you record your video you make a steemit post about it with the video included. Then you add a link to your post in the current week's contest post from @luzcypher (he runs the contest)
If you don't say your username, the week number of the contest (next week is 91.. so you'd say something like "Hi this is rosannaeastman and this is my entry for Steemit Open Mic week 91" then record your song (covers are fine but they reward originals most often)

I just like to float around and find new musicians to steemit like you, to help the contest grow. I know I sound like a commercial. ha ha. It's actually pretty rare I actually find someone so well established already in their career.
I am in a group at discord called @helpie if you'd ever like to join the world of discord let me know.. super beneficial for musicians as a large crowd of musicians gather over there and there are radio shows and such where you can be featured. Open mic has their own server as well.
