Music is business and as such there is a need to build organic customers. Constant inorganic or sponsored adverts or promotion could raise new fans, but nothing retains a fan as testimonials from already existing fans.

As an independent up and coming artiste having a sound relationship with your very first organic fan base which should be your family friends or colleagues is very vital. They are your foundation fan base because he is on them that your success in building a cultic fan base lie.

Out of every 100% fans generated by an independent up and coming artist 75% of those are gotten from the testimonials of already existing fans. Nothing grows a brand like organic promotion.

To build a cultic fanbase, one must have the desire to make it organic

With this steps you can reach a million fanbase with a little effort

1. Form a community

Your new fans we only replicate the actions of your old fans. Ensure you push out your brand and your vision to your foundation fan base. let them get to understand what your music is all about and what message you're trying to pass across. A community is a group of persons with a unified goal. Build and lead one.

2. Be Vulnerable

Your fans could love or hate you for minor reasons. Hiding your true self from your foundation fan base is risky as they might get to hate you when they discover you lied about something. Be an open wallet.

3. Build Relationship with your foundation fan base.

Have a fans only event or reach out. Get to have a personal relationship with your fans. Let them fall in love with your person.

Fans don't fan an artistes mp3 or song, they fan your personality. That's why they could listen to all your songs no matter their quality.

4. Focus on what's working

Though it is nice to explore new sounds, strategy, or routes once in a while, it is equally important to stick to what's working. Maintain a brand in your style, music concepts, etc. Also pay more attention to the social media that's working.

This is a new series. I've been an artiste manager for 4 years and I through my personal experience could bet my life on these steps.

Following these steps will produce nothing other than fame.

Good information, It works for any industry.

By definition, the goal of developing a cultic fanbase accurately describes what popular artists (or wannabe popular artists) are aiming to accomplish.

Did You Know?

The Latin adjective fanaticus, a derivative of the noun fanum, meaning “temple,” originally meant “of or relating to a temple.” It was later used to refer to pious individuals who were thought to have been inspired by a god or goddess. In time, the sense “frantic, frenzied, mad” arose because it was thought that persons behaving in such a manner were possessed by a deity. This was the first meaning of the English word fanatic. This sense is now obsolete, but it led to the meaning “excessively enthusiastic, especially about religious matters.” The word later became less specific, meaning simply “excessively enthusiastic or unreasonable.” The noun fan, meaning “enthusiast,” is probably a shortening of fanatic.

Music is not a business. Music is music, music is life. Some people make a business out of music and a business with music. They (mis)use music for business purposes.
