Alternative Weekend Music: Wolf Alice, Manic Street Preachers and Moriaty

in #music6 years ago

I appreciate the #MetalWeekend by @detlev. The man who also created #BeerSaturday deserves a knighthood. However, I am a music lover first, and I would not describe my music tastes as Metal. I’m not sure what I would describe it as, rock, alternative, whatever.

My favourite category of music is good music.

Then comes @slobberchops with a new initiative. Whilst paying tribute to @detlev’s #MetalWeekend, has created a new tag, #AlternativeWeekend. This one fits more comfortably with myself. In fact, I don’t know where to start.

It is simple really

Just choose 3 songs and post them. Make sure they’re good ones and Bob’s your uncle.

Get on with it then

OK, I get the message

Wolf Alice - Moaning Lisa Smile

I could have chosen a whole host of songs. My favourite “new” band right now. I just love them. I remember switching on the TV in 2014 to watch their Glastonbury set and I was hooked instantly. I even considered a triple Wolf Alice choice and I wouldn’t rule it out in the future.

Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life

Sometimes you just need to pick a classic. What a comeback after the disappearance of Richey James. Possibly, still their best moment. They are still making great tunes.

Moriaty - Bones

Chris Wolstenholme from Muse appears on bass for this track. Moriaty are also from Devon in the UK and are brilliant to watch live. Go check them out.

There we are then. I hope you enjoyed these tracks.

Don`t stop lovin the music

I love Wolf Alice and know this song very well.. one of their better ones. Planet Hunter is my favourite though.

I saw them live in Newcastle last year, but the venue sucked, a shame really.

The Manic's are great too, I remember this one only too well.

Planet Hunter is awesome. I'd love to see them live. Maybe they'll come to Dubai.

I've been a fan of Manics since Generation Terrorists in 1992. I still get excited when they release a new album.

I love Manic Street Preachers! Their cover of "Can't take my eye off you" is one of my favorites! Great stuff!

It is nearly time for #AlternativeWeekend 2 and there is a new Manic Street Preachers video. They're still making great records.

That is awesome! I just posted my first #alternativeweekend post today!

Hey @mr-neil, nice short list!

I remember listening to Manic's Forever Delayed for hours when it came out. I think they were and still are largely unknown in France, as I've yet to talk to a Frenchman who ever heard the band's name.
Regardless, I love this song myself and I put it in my top tracks with If you tolerate this..., There by the grace of God, So why so sad and Everything must go.

This #alternativeweekend is really a nice idea!

#AlternativeWeekend is a great idea, we need to thank @slobberchops.

There's a more comprehensive Manics Best Of called National Treasures which features 38 singles, full album versions. They are still making great tunes so maybe I'll do a Manics triple special next week.

Interesting, I did not know about that more comprehensive best of. Will put that on my playlist. Thanks!

Wolf Alice are so bizarre and I love it! Their songs don't stick to a particular genre and they love to play with the idea of different sounds and structure within each individual song. I'm glad there are other fans out there! I've been following their work for some time and the band members seem sincere, humble and extremely down to earth, Ellie is an absolute gem and her vocals can range from hardcore scream to peaceful love ballads. I haven't really listened to Moriaty and Manic Street Preachers yet, but based on the positive things you have to say about them, I'll definitely delve into their music now!!

That's a great summing up of Wolf Alice. I started listening to them before their debut album. I watched their Glastonbury set in 2014 and bought the two EPs, Blush and Creature Songs. Unfortunately, the physical copies were unavailable so did the rare thing of buying the download.

Manic Street Preachers have been going a long time. Commercially, their best days are behind them, but they have returned to top form over recent years and are still making great music.

Moriaty are still an relatively unknown band from Devon, UK. I left in 2015 but there were some great bands playing the local circuit. Moriaty were the best for me and I hope they get more noticed.

Nice post.

"Libraries gave us power, then work came and made us free..." Haha, I still can sing this song by heart, IMO this is the best song by Manic Street Preachers! :D

Cool list, #alternativeweekend is gonna be my favorite new hashtag on steemit! :D

Best song? Maybe yes, but Manics have done a lot of great songs. A class act.

Have a go. It will be fun.
😎

I'll start next week with some Pavement songs :D
