Pank Zappaland - my cover band in the Spirit of Floyd and Zappa

Inspired recently by a post from @learnguitar and response by free content hub I decided to show some, now a little sentimental footage. The main keyboard player was a good buddy. We worked closely together the last eight years of his life and he died on the way home from one of my gigs of a heart attack. His name was Tim Alexander. He was a bass player before he was a keyboard player and he had five Grammys on his piano at home. We used to switch instruments in the middle of the song in the road band we played in, since I had an upright bass and also played some keys. He spent 12 years or so with Asleep at the Wheel before taking the gig that I started working with him on. I didn’t actually mean for this post to be about brother Tim but I hadn’t looked at this footage in a while.

After working together for several years the gigs started to get more scarce and since the guitar player from the band lived in Lubbock I volunteered to pick up guitar and book some weekday gigs as a trio with Tim and I switching off covering the bass.

Tim first came up the name Led ZAppaland and we did a couple of gigs with that name. but everyone thought we were a Led Zeppelin tribute band. So I had to change the name to Pank Zappaland and that was the birth canal.
