“I don't need your war machines, I don't need your ghetto scenes”

song ~ “American Woman”
artist ~ The Guess Who

American woman, stay away from me
American woman, mama, let me be
Don't come a-hangin' around my door
I don't wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you
Now woman, I said stay away
American woman, listen what I say

American woman, get away from me
American woman, mama, let me be
Don't come a-knockin' around my door
Don't wanna see your shadow no more
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, I said get away
American woman, listen what I say, hey

American woman, said get away
American woman, listen what I say
Don't come a-hangin' around my door
Don't wanna see your face no more
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, get away from me
American woman, mama, let me be

Go, gotta get away, gotta get away
Now go go go
I'm gonna leave you, woman
Gonna leave you, woman
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
You're no good for me
I'm no good for you
Gonna look you right in the eye
Tell you what I'm gonna do
You know I'm gonna leave
You know I'm gonna go
You know I'm gonna leave
You know I'm gonna go, woman
I'm gonna leave ya, woman
Goodbye, American woman     (Image source)

This 1970 song by the Canadian band The Guess Who reached Number 1 on the Billboard charts.

From Humble Noodling …

This hit song had humble beginnings, after the band had completed a US tour and returned to Canada. While noodling about on stage one evening, guitarist Randy Bachman started playing a new riff. The other band members joined in, and singer Burton Cummings extemporized some new lyrics, loosely based on their experiences touring the US.

Conveniently, a member of the audience had been recording the show on a cassette recorder. The band borrowed the tape, and Cummings wrote down the lyrics he had improvised.

Anti-War Machine

While some of the lyrics might sound anti-American, the band members have stated that that was not their intention. It was just that, after experiencing first-hand the social unrest in the US in the late 1960s, they were relieved to be back in “the safety of Canada.”

In 2014, however, guitarist Randy Bachman stated that it was clearly an anti-war     (Image source) song.     Note – While the songwriters of “American Woman”  are generally noted to be the 4 band members of The Guess Who who were jamming on stage on that day, the lyrics were apparently composed by the lead singer Burton Cummings.

Interesting lyrics.

American woman come to me. Can't you see that the door is opened? Come to me baby!

Since the singer don't wanna see American women, they can come to me. Hehehehe

Your lyrics sound great. All you godda do is write a few more verses, get a band together, compose a tune, jump up on stage, and start singing. The hot babes will jump up onto the stage – and not to sing!!

Hahaha I would have taken your instruction/suggestion had I not have one of the most horrible voices in the world.

good
