This soothing song has been subject to numerous and various interepretations.  

A Good Time

On one hand, it could be facetious. Eveyone wants to go to heaven, and everyone will enjoy what goes on there. Except for the fact that nothing happens there. Hmmm. 

A Grand Void

On the other hand, Byrne could be referring to the eastern conception of a non-dualisist paradise – one that is beyond the physical world, beyond manifestation, beyond activity, and even beyond time. Except for the fact that there’s a bar (a presumably well-stocked bar), and there’s also a great band on stage. Hmmm. 

A Great Experience 

While we may never understand what Byrne is actually saying in this song, there’s one thing all can agree on; “Heaven”  has a calming melody and evocative lyrics that make it wonderfully easy to listen to. It's almost like being in a great bar with lotsa booze and a great band on stage.     _{(Image source)}
