“Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes”

song ~ “Fortunate Son”
artist ~ Creedence Clearwater Revival

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah!
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! Yo

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no     (Image source)

Released in 1969, this song quickly became an anthem of the anti-war movement in the US.

Rage against inequality

John Fogerty said that it was anger that compelled him to write the song. While the song’s anti-war sentiments are clear and undeniable, he said it was ultimately about the “unfairness of class.”  Usually, wars are not fought by the sons of the rich and powerful, but by the lower classes.

Particularly during the Vietnam War, the senators’ sons, millionaries’ sons, and other “fortunate sons”   were not sent to fight in the pointless war.

Rate among the greatest

CCR’s “Fortunate Son”  was ranked #17 on Pitchfork Media’s "200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s," and #99 on Rolling Stone magazine’s "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

Moreover, in 2014, the Library of Congress placed the song on its National Recording Registry, stating that the song was "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”     (Image source)

I am not Senator's son. Hehehe. The world isn't fair. While some people are born with a silver spoon, others are born with no food at all.

Once again, the above lyrics xray the imbalance distribution of wealth in modern societies. But what can be done about ascribed status? Nothing, I think.

Good lyrics, very good reference.

It is good to read what you write, many congratulations and success in what you do.
