Thunder to Your Ears

Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra

The Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra was planned as a one-off performance, initiated and promoted by the French Institute in Haiti.

Come Together, Across the Ocean

The institute’s director brought together Afro-beat pioneer Tony Allen and a wide cross-section of Haitian musicians. The plan was for the musicians to compose some songs together, and then perform them at a large public performance, which was to be broadcast throughout the island.

Smoke on the Island

However, various obstacles arose – including a smoke bomb, and then the failure of some of the sound equipment. Nevertheless, as evidenced by this vid, they did manage to put on a fine performance. Moreover, they cobbled together much of the music on the self-titled album.
