RE: Rediscovering Music - Part Two
Nice choices @beeyou!
Even when MTV was big, I always tried NOT to watch them because it ruined what the song organically had already created in my head. After I see a video, that's the only thing I visualize whenever I hear the song, and I find that my brain is often a lot more creative :) I feel the same way about reading a book and then watching the movie or vice versa. It just kind of ruins the personal experience for me. I think that's probably a bit of a rarity, especially during the MTV craze that is.
I'm glad you are rediscovering music; I couldn't live without it. We haven't had tv for over a year now, although we will sometimes watch Netflix, but being tv-less, I have music playing all the time and absolutely love it! :)
Oh I hate it when a video ruins a song for me @lynncoyle1. So I know what you mean with having your perception altered by not having the right visual to accompany the words. The mind is definitely more creative!
I really don't know when I stopped listening to music. I used to love music, but then I started listening to audiobooks since I also love reading. I just never have time to sit with a good book in hand, so I listen to the audiobook version at work. Lately, I started listening to music again and feel that I've missed out on so much. Some songs are simply beautiful and just soothing. It really does speak to the soul.
As for TV, yeah, that can be ruled out. The only thing playing on my TV are kid shows. I know just about every alphabet and children song and every popular kid out in the YouTube world. No time for adult movies, although I make time for Game of Thrones. That is one show I won't miss.
Be thankful that your kids weren't born during the Barney the Dinosaur era! I still get hives thinking about it haha
Brian and I love Game of Thrones, but we don't have tv here, so I have definitely been missing it. I refuse to pay for online HBO just for that though. Aw well, first world problems...
There are so many studies that show the power of music; I wish everyone had music playing instead of dumb ol' tv's in their houses all the time :)
Lol, I actually tried putting a Barney show for him. I guess it's not cool enough for kids of this generation. He prefers his regular ones.
Oh NOOOO...no GOTs?? That is probably the worse, hehe. I actually like the book a lot more but he stopped writing it completely. The show went far beyond the story line in the book, what a shame too. It is an interesting story line but you get more from the experience with the book.
I'm actually enjoying music again a lot. Realizing that a lot of songs I once loved are no longer as impactful. Funny how life changes your perception. I mean the song is still there, encapsulated in time melody and all, but how it affects us changes as we change too.
It's so true how a song at one point in your life can mean so much and then later, meh, not so much ;)
