Celebrating NZ music throughout May: 9 - Harry Parsons / Tony Backhouse
Short and sweet tonight, as I’ve been to choir, which cut drastically into my post writing time!
We’re having a bit of a break from performing now, after a hectic first few months of the year. We’ve started learning some songs from the new songbook being released on the 1st June. It’s full of original songs written by NZ song leaders, so kiwi music written for choirs and song groups. A bit different from the kind of music we’ve been looking at up till now.
Tonight we started learning a prayer song by gospel song leader Tony Backhouse, called Fa'afetai. The words are in Samoan, but the composer is a kiwi, so we count that as NZ music. Here it is being performed by the Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir

Their pick today is another new release, Real by Harry Parsons
MuzicNetNZ says about it:
UK born, NZ raised singer/songwriter Harry Parsons is pleased to release the music video for his beautiful new single Real. Filmed by Christchurch filmmaker, James Murray, the video portrays a young woman appreciating the good, simple things in life and finding joy in the little things, reflecting the song's message of hope in finding moments of clarity. Shot entirely in Christchurch in one day, the video has a dreamy, washed out, nostalgic feel.

Quite like the Harry Parsons song :)
Yes, I quite liked it too. It's been quite interesting seeing what new stuff is out there.
