Quick Curation: Five Sad Bastard Songs

in #music7 years ago

I make sad bastard music. I listen to sad bastard music. I love sad bastard music. Here are some of my favorite sad bastard songs.

1. "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." - Sufjan Stevens

This is one of the creepiest songs ever written. The beauty of the actual music, combined with the terrible nature of its subject matter is a fabulous juxtaposition and one that makes for a great work of art.

2. "Poison & Wine" - The Civil Wars

This is one of the best songs ever written to describe a relationship that just can't work. I could write a book about my analysis of this song, but it's best to just experience it for yourself. The Civil Wars are a duo I really miss. I think they were perhaps too intense for even them. I can also see why. Their live performances are mind-blowing. So much chemistry on stage.

3. "The Best Deceptions" - Dashboard Confessional

Put simply, there aren't many songs closer to my heart than this one.

4. "Makers" - Rocky Votolato

Rocky Votolato is one of my favorite all-time singer-songwriters. This song captures so much of the concept of the heart of sad bastard music, and I love it so much.

5. "I'm Sorry, I'm Trying" - nothing,nowhere

nothing, nowhere has quickly become one of my favorite newer artists on the scene. I had the chance to actually see him live in concert in Springfield, MO, and his performance was both masterful and emotion-driven. His humility, songwriting style, depth, and openness is really moving.

I hope you enjoy today's Quick Curation!
