It's Happening: Going full-time with music and Steemit on August 18!
On Friday, I officially turned in my two-week notice to my boss at the vape shop, and on August 18, I will be a full-time musician and Steemit blogger!
When I joined Steemit last October, I had no idea that in less than a year, I would be able to supplement my income to the point that between music and Steemit, that I could even think about quitting a traditional job, let alone actually being able to do it responsibly.
Over the past few months, I've noticed my music schedule taking more and more time during my weeks. First it was a show a month, then a show a week, and now I'm playing an average of 3-5 gigs a week, with more coming in seemingly every day. I feel so blessed!
Looking at my schedule for the next couple of months, I realized I was way more booked than I'd even realized. That's an amazing feeling, however, the amount of sleep I'm losing and the energy that's drained as a result of my 9-5 made me think closely about my plans for the next few months.
- I have songs to write.
- I have songs to record.
- I have art to make.
- I have a calendar full of dates which also guarantee money along with them.
- I have no time.
So, in the spirit of my intentions to live a life of intentional creation (of which I've often posted about in the past), I started saving money diligently a few months ago and living pretty bare bones to see how much I could put back. Well, I have enough to do this for at least 3 months, so with the amazing support of my partner, decided to go ahead and put my notice in on Friday.
I'm scared to death about this, but more excited and hopeful than I've been in a long time, and I feel a strong sense of peace about this decision, so I feel it is the right time to do it. Hell, I'm not getting any younger, that's for sure.
I am epically thankful to everyone who continues to offer their support, be it in the form of upvotes, resteeming, and the amazing conversations I have within the communities here.
This week I also reached the milestone of 800 followers, and I am so grateful to all of you for following along this journey as I travel around playing these sad songs for folks and sharing the experience with you here.
I promise to continue bringing you the assorted randomness with even higher quality, as I am dedicated to the success of this platform, and want to do everything within my power to help make Steemit a beautiful place for us all to be.
