A-List Singers Who Flopped on Their Album/s - Part 1 (Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry)

When you're on top, there's no other path for you to go down. That's true to many of A-List musicians today. They're not always on top, as consistency is not always assured.

Note: This list do not tackle the numbers of albums sold because volume of sales varies from the past to the present.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga might have experienced overexposure during her heydays from her debut album The Fame. She never loses gimmicks to sell. The album even scored four top 10 singles, and include the three hits from The Fame Moster extended play. With Born This Way, it did not match her previous records, but still considered a hit. There has been hype on her album Artpop, but it did not lived up to expectations. It went number 1, sales is fine but lower than previous hits. It only scored Applause as the only top 10 hit. There came Joanne, which was a number 1 hit. But it almost did not score a top 10 hit if A Million Reasons did not climb up the top 5. Thanks to her SuperBowl performance.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake sure did achieve success before solo efforts through NSYNC. His debut Justified became a hit with millions of sales, and 3 consecutive top 10 hits. It took years before his second album was released Future Sex/Love Sounds. It became a bigger hit scoring a number of top 10 hits, along with 3 Billboard chart-toppers. When his third album The 20/20 Experience, there is huge anticipation. Sales did not equate previous records, but considered a big hit along with biggest first week sales. It had scored two big hits. Volume 2 of the album was announced which eventually landed to number 1. Sales are lower because it is at the shadow of the volume 1. Recently, when his album Man of the Woods was announced, there are negativities especially when the single Filthy was released. A string of singles was released but only Say Something (with Chris Stapleton) was applauded. The album had the two singles went to top 10 of Billboard, but the staying power is not enough due to negative reviews of the album. Yes, it was a number 1 album, but the support is weak.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry shot to stardom through the number 1 song I Kissed A Girl. The parent album One of the Boys sold millions, but can't consider her among those A-List stars. She sure did scored two more top 10 hits off the album, but she's still among those considered singles artist. Her career boosted through Teenage Dream album. It went to number 1, despite still considering her as a singles artist, it cemented her as a superstar. The album became a sleeper hit with the aid of 5 number 1 and a number 3 hits. It led to the release of Teenage Dream Complete Confection, and scored another number 1 and a number 2 hits. Prism became multi-million seller. It might have sold lower than the previous album but it attained her status after scoring two number 1 hits which sold tens of millions each. However, her comeback album Witness was considered by majority as flopped despite entering number 1, and scoring a top 5 hit through Chained Through the Rhythm. All other singles failed to make impact.
