How Important Is Music In Your Video ?

Music plays a massive role in the success of your Visual Content (Video and Animation). 

The right music selection will drive your video forward and create emotion around your messaging. 

The wrong track can result in audiences clicking off your video!

So how do you select the right music for your content?

1. Start with feelings

How do you want your audience to feel when they watch your content? Should they be excited or should they be on the verge of tears?

Picking the right tempo, style and instruments can have a big impact.

2. Avoid cheap sounding digital instruments

Nothing sounds more dated than synth instruments that are trying to replicate real ones. If you want it to sound real... Use tracks that use real instruments.

3. Be John Carpenter... Not John Williams

The John Carpenter philosophy is that music should be like carpet… You put it down on the floor… It supports your feet but after a while you don’t even know it’s there... This works well for Visual Content.

4. If you can afford it get it composed

Composed music is in most instances better to stock and can be composed specifically for your content and can be a great identifier and differentiator for your brand.

Music is a carpet for your video.

 Is it better to have no music at all than have the wrong music during your video? 

 I would suggest no music is always preferable to the wrong music in a video.

 The wrong music is just that wrong and it can turn an audience off to your message so quickly... There are plenty of stock sites available where you can find fairly decent music these days it's just about investing the time and effort in finding the right track... But if you can’t find it - yeah just leave the music out.
