Following the attention and viewers the Grammy's get every year, one can say music is the most influential means of communicating to the masses.
But the likes of jay-z and sensational rapper Kendrick Lamar have chosen to express not just their feelings but also the black citizens of America, their suffering and the changes they desire.
The two major issues are police brutality and racism, both which can be traced as far back as when the N.W.A talked about it in straight outta Compton.
Jay-z spoke at length on racism in the track "the story of oj" and explains how if blacks citizens of America are financially free, they could use the freedom to liberate themselves.
Kendrick expressed his feelings in track "XXX" starting with an unfavorable system to a black child, followed by unfavourable health bills and failed gun control. Spoke on gang wars, police brutality , racist news on Fox, falsed witnesses etc.
Both artist were nominated for the record of the year and album of the year respectively.
After listening to both albums I discovered both Artists are telling a sorrowful tale and trying to console those who can relate to it.
The delivery of these messages has come a long way from the way it was presented years ago. The poetry, rhymes and beats are superb and will be remembered in years to come.
I hope after reading this article you would listen to both albums with open mind and not see them as vocal aggressors but as beautiful rap music.
