“Coupe Bibabam," Awilo Logomba (African Pop, Music to Your Ears - GBB #15)

in #music5 years ago (edited)

........Music is a universal language. This song provides an evidence.

Coupe Bibabam (1998)

Written in French and the Cameroonian dialect, Coupe Bubabam ruled the African musical airwaves for quite a long while. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the translation of the song in English.

In most anglophone African countries, the original lyrics of this song has been corrupted. Nevertheless, the song remains danceable and entertaining.

Awilo Longomba

Awilo Longomba is a Congolese musician and drummer. In 1995, he finally quit drumming for singing and released his first album.

His second CD, Coupe Bibamba (1998) made him known throughout Africa, Europe and America. This was followed by Kafou Kafou (2001) and an album, Mondongo (2004), which features Japponais, Dally Kimoko, Caen Madoka, Djudjuchet, Josky Kiambukuta and Simaro Lutumba.

Awilo came from a generation of musicians. His father, Victor Longomba, was a founding member of T.P OK Jazz. It was he who inspired Awilo's interest in music.
