Classical Turkish Music Series #2 - Nikriz Peşrev (Instrumental Composition) (Classical Ottoman Music)

Hi to all! This one is almost my favorite. Nikriz Peşrev, composed by Ali Ufkî.

Peşrev (Peshrev):
"Peş" means like "pre, befor" in english. "Rev" means "go, goer" (ethimological roots starts from Persian).

Peshrevs, as like as uvertures, plays before a long part of concert. This long parts names as "Fasıl." Every fasıl has a "mâkam" and includes songs from same mâkam(special turkish music mods, for example hidjaz, nihavend, uşşak, nikriz). So, as an example, if I play Hidjaz Faslı, most likely I play a Hidjaz Peşrev before fasıl. To prepare ears for Hidjaz. Peşrev's are some kind of messengers, it tells you which mâkam is coming, and prepare your ears and your soul for that mâkam.

Nikriz:
Nikriz is a mâkam of Turkish Music. A special mod.

I know, this informations can be confusing, but this is not what it looks like. Nikriz Peşrev - Ali Ufkî

Mâkam: Nikriz.
Composer: Ali Ufkî (1610 - 1675).

His actual name is Wojciech Bobowski. He cames to Ottoman Empire as an imprisoner. After his graduation of Enderun School (Special schooll of Ottoman Palace), the sultan gives his freedom to Ali Ufkî. He was an translator, musicolog, santur player, writer and composer.
