#musicdiscovery 2SBD giveaway - 90s music suggestions
Hello Steemians and fellow music lovers!
Time to announce the winner from last weeks 3SBD giveaway - thanks so much for all the entries it has given me lots of new music to listen to, and I won't be short of 80s music to listen to for a long time!
And this winner this time is… @calisay
- thanks for such an extensive list of music! I haven't got through all of it yet.. not even close! Some classics in there that I have heard and some I have never heard of. So far my favorite is still Badlands. Been listening to most of these on Youtube and the hair and style of the the 80s is amazing! 3SBD is on its way to you!
I really appreciate everyone taking time to give such awesome suggestions so I am also going to give 0.1SBD for all those who participated - check your wallets!
As you can probably guess by the title of this post I am also going to have another giveaway - this time the prize will be 2SBD. It makes logical sense that after having such awesome suggestions of 80s music that we should move on and look at 90s music! I grew up in the 90s so I have much more knowledge and opinion on 90s music, but would also love to hear others favorites and hopefully be introduced to some new music. So, again all you have to do to go into the draw is comment and share your favorite 90s music (guilty pleasures welcome!) and I will pick my favorite answer and award 3SBD
Upvoting/resteeming is not necessary but would still be appreciated.
Il start you off by offering some of my favorite bands from the 90s
Stone Temple Pilots
Stone Temple Pilots were my favorite band growing up, with so many memorable tunes. 90s was a time of grunge music and Stone Temple Pilots were a huge part of this, along with other bands such as Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Their first album ‘Core’ was probably my favorite - introducing us to the brilliant and raw vocals of Scott Weiland, and the awesome power of the Deleo brothers on bass and guitar. Scott Weiland had a long and public struggle with drugs and it was a sad day in 2015 when he died of an overdose. However, Stone Temple Pilots decide to continue, auditioning and finding a new singer Jeff Gutt, and released their self titled album earlier this year - I really like it! So many great songs, but here's one of their great early tunes ‘Sex type thing’:
The Offspring - Americana
This was the first CD I ever bought as a teenager - way before the time of online streaming, and so it was an album I came to love! The Offspring were one the bands that helped bring punk rock into the mainstream, although with Americana they gained more success as although it still has the punk undertones it also has more of a radio friendly pop/rock sound. Here's one of the more simple, but effective songs ‘She's got issues’ from Americana:
311
311 is another band that I loved as a teenager, and unfortunately have lost touch with (they have released a new album in 2017). The albums i loved were the self titled (blue) album Soundsystem. 311 are known for their unique sound, mixing rock with rap, funk and even some tones of metal. I also love their amazing bass lines! Here is one of their early funky tunes ‘Come Original’:
Robbie Williams
This one is a bit of a guilty pleasure - but in the 90s not the only guilty pleasure I had! Robbie Williams was one of the bigger pop names in the 90s with massive hits such as ‘Let me entertain you’, ‘Angels’ and ‘Rock DJ’. What I loved was the pop, singalong sounds and I loved the albums I’ve been expecting you and Sing when your winning. Although the song Rock DJ was released in 2000 I couldn't help but share it - it was a bit controversial and also popular as Robbie takes off all of his skin and ends up a skeleton:
This is just a small collection of some of the more influential music of the 90s for me but I could go on for hours. Other bands I loved from the 90s are Faith No More, Nirvana, Korn, Limp Bizkit and so many more!
Im looking forward to all your suggestions!

The 90s were some tumultuous years for me, one group that helped me through was Matchbox 20 with Push and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Under the Bridge*.
