7 Facts About Red Hot Chili Peppers

in #music7 years ago

Here are seven interesting facts about the Red Hot Chili Peppers that you (probably) did not know.

1. Stadium Arcadium album artwork

The cover for the album Stadium Arcadium was originally supposed to be designed by the legendary graphic designer Storm Thorgerson, which was the designer for such classic album covers as Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon and Muse – Absolution. The band rejected the ideas from the designer and used their own. Here is a couple of designs he did for the album:

2. Flea and Kiedis as actors

Both Flea and Kiedis have partaken in the movie industry as actors. Flea appeared in the films Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Back to the Future 1 and 2, while Anthony played a role of a surfer dude named Tone in the film Point Break with Keanu Reeves.

3. The Simpsons

The band appears on the Simpsons, in the episode “Krusty Gets Cancelled” where they play their hit “Give It Away” in their underwear. Before they get on the stage Krusty asks the members if they can change the lyrics from “What I’ve got, I’ve got to get and put it in you” to “What I’d like, is I’d like to hug and kiss you” so it would be more child friendly.

4. First Gig

The first gig the Chili Peppers played was under the name Tony Flow And The Miraculously Majestic Masters Of Mayhem in front of a crowd of 30 people. They were playing improvised songs, while Kiedis read poems he wrote.

5. Haunted Studio Mansion

The ground-breaking album Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik released in 1991, was recorded in a studio called the Mansion, located in LA. The Mansion is known for being haunted after a man pushed a lover from the balcony to his doom. According to Kiedis, it is also the place where the Beatles first used LSD.

6. Record Budget

When the band started to make the third record, the label gave them a budget of 5000 dollars. Almost half of the money was used entirely for buying heroin and cocaine, which was the downfall of their original guitarist Hillel Slovak.

7. HBO Show

HBO was interested to make a series about Anthony Kiedis’ upbringing titled Spider and Son, which was based on his autobiography released in 2004 – Scar Tissue. HBO didn’t find a sutable time slot for the show, passed it to FX, and from there it was never talked about again.

Steem ON!

My lord, this book.

Tell me that you've read it. I have never come across someone that I could discuss it in detail with. What a crazy bloke, this one - and the rest of the RHCP members.
