The Power of Music #9 - Music and Religions

in #music7 years ago

Hi Dears Steemians

The "spirit of music" is immersed in all cultures, religions, peoples, cities and traditions, its influence on people is notorious and each person has different ways to enjoy it, live it and feel the music.

Is true that the music reaches and touches depths of our soul, is for that and many more reasons that different religions use music as a great ally.

In ancient times it was believed that the music affected directly the will, which, in turn, influence on the character and therefore about human behavior, reason by which different religions decided to opt for the music to attract new followers and believers.

Is significant to discover that music produces its impact on that portion of the brain that receives the stimuli of emotions, sensations and feelings without necessarily passing through the brain centers involved in the reason and intelligence. In other words, music can have an impact on us unless we realize.

Between music and Religion

Religion has had an ambivalent relationship with the music. On the one hand, the majority of theological systems represents paradise as a place where you can listen to sweet harmonies. Both Judeo-Christian angels as Hindu dakinis are playing instruments. At the same time, among the great monotheistic religions there has been disparity of criteria in evaluating the goodness or badness of the music.

Until the arrival of the new was, seemed to have been forgotten that the music has also played a role of lifting to other higher States of consciousness. And the truth is that much of the best composers have been "enlightened" in one way or another with a light that inspired them.

Music, Paganism or blessing of God

In Orthodox Islam, the music is prohibited. However, its mystical power, the sufi discipline, became an art, today practiced in countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Senegal and Syria. A similar dispute between Puritans and heterodox occurs also in Judaism.

Christian Church has not saved of this controversy about the virtues of music. If in the early stages of Christianity he scorned it is, being associated to the degrading spectacles of circuses and pagan meetings, as the middle ages progressed towards the Renaissance and was placed in different parts of the mass to become a strong ally to attract followers.

Since the 19th century, Evangelical churches became mass spectacles, through the gospel or spiritual black, which is sung today in United States, in South Africa. In Spain there are famous Gypsy masses for similar reasons.

African rites, such as candomblé, macumba and santeria are inevitably linked to the vibration of the drum, producing States of "ecstasy".

In conclusion

Music is so influential in our lives and is a language so universal that it is taken by all religions as a "gift of God". Each belief, tradition, and people used to infect people's emotions and touch the soul of each individual.

El Poder de la Música #9 - La Música y las Religiones

Hola Queridos Steemians

Sort:

I love music. Almost any kind. When I was younger I mostly listened to rock music but soon realized there is much more to it. My friends introduced me to dance, pop music, after joining a choir in high school I added folk songs and gospel. University years and change of environment brought hip hop, blues and jazz. After moving to Canada I have noticed country. Recently and mostly during studying I have been listening to classical music. I enjoy listening to the music, I respect the musicians, conductors, producers and am thankful for the variety and accessibility of music. I also love to sing although after four years of singing in a jazz choir I have no time to pursue this path at the moment. Hopefully soon! Great post @betamusic!

I also hope that soon you will sing again, music is a fundamental part of my life since I have reason to play some instrument, I love the guitar, the piano and I have a choir where I sing my favorite music, thanks for your comment !! ^^

Lots of talents and hard work I see. What kind of songs does your choir sing?

@betamusic

You're welcome, @betamusic
It is truly a wonderful gift to us all! Have a great day! 🎶

I regard everything as Sound.
Life is Indeed Music. "M us I c"

Post reminded me of my all time favorite religious quote:

"In the Beginning was the Word, and The Word was With and As God"

Steem On,
Our Words are Alive
:)

Is undisputed the power of music in each person, and regardless of the religion they profess, or beliefs that have, always enjoy the beautiful melodies music.

Absolutely! Music allows me to drift away, it allows me to feel happy, it allows me to appreciate the moment.

Music fills us with emotions and rejoices our soul

Gracias querido @efrageek ^^. me encantan tus comentarios!

Gracias @haydeart Saludos!! ^^.

Yes music is a universal language. As a musician I grew up hearing this from mom who taught music and directed church choir for decades. The disciples sing the psalms and used music in their worship to God. It is interesting how God made that for us even though we speak many different spoken languages. I enjoyed the translation to your post. I will share a post for you as well since you appreciate religious posts. Hope you like it.
