Amazing Arcade Fire Tribute to Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan 🎶 🎷 🎸 🎹 🎻 🎺 🎶

in #music7 years ago (edited)

This was yet another masterpiece concert from the amazing Arcade Fire, building up to the unbelievable crescendo which I have shared below. It was my 3rd time seeing the Canadian Indie Rock band live. And boy, did they not disappoint. There is a reason why Arcade Fire are one of favorite bands on the planet, a permanent fixture in my top five, which often changes, as bands come into the top 5 and out again - Arcade Fire has never moved out of that top 5. Ever since I first listened to their debut album Funeral back in 2004, I became an instant fan, and there are very few bands or solo singers worldwide who can hold a candle to these folks in my opinion.

Husband and wife Win Butler and Régine Chassagne front the band vocally, and are joined by Win's younger brother William Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara. On this tour, they were also joined by former core member Sarah Neufeld, percussionist Tiwill Duprate and saxophonist Stuart Bogie.

One of things which I love most about Arcade Fire, is the array of instruments that they can collectively play, and play so well!! They include the guitar, drums, bass guitar, violin, piano, keyboard, cello, double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, viola, synthesizer, French horn, accordion, harp, mandolin and hurdy-gurdy and I'm sure I've missed some in my listing.. the multi-instrumentalist band members switch duties throughout shows to create a heavenly mixture of sounds which would soothe the unhappiest of minds. Their lyrics and songs are powerful too, often challenging the status quo on diverse issues.

As many of you probably know Dolores O'Riardan sadly passed away on Januray 18th this year. She was the lead singer of Irish rock band the Cranberries. The Cranberries enjoyed international acclaim in the 1990s and sold over 40 million records, the song that would be most associated with them was their hit song "Linger" which I have shared below for those not familiar with the song, and indeed those who just want to remember Dolores's gorgeous voice again.

I was extremely emotional when I heard the chord progression I knew so well from this song emanate through the O2 Arena in Dublin from the array of instruments which Arcade Fire had massaged perfectly all night. I was fixed to the spot and soaked in their emotional tribute, but not only did they succeed in their tribute, they weaved it into the end of "Everything Now" from their new album, and then continued straight into the unbelievable song from their Debut album Funeral "Wake Up" - This song is one of the best live songs I've heard from any band, anywhere ever... The way the crowd becomes involved sends a shiver up my spine each and every time I hear, but to be there in person, is even more special.

I sometimes take videos and photos at Gigs, but recently I have realised that by doing so, and concentrating on the video capture, I am missing out on the moment, on the now... So at this concert, my phone stayed in my pocket from start to finish, and I lost myself in their songs,as they washed over my mind and body. I think this how I will approach Gigs anymore, be present and lock the sounds and sights away in my minds eye, instead of my phone.

Luckily for my Steemit followers a guy called Roy O Mahony found the time to record it, and hopefully he managed to enjoy it too, and did not have to concentrate too hard on the capture :o)

He did a great job, and please consider that this is captured on a smartphone, so the sound, visual and atmosphere was oceans better in the flesh. I have rewatched this about ten times since last Saturday nights show, and it just gets better and better.

Thank you Roy 📹

Thank you Arcade Fire 🎶 🎷 🎸 🎹 🎻 🎺 🎶

That was quite the wordy introduction, so at last here is the video. Sit back, press play and enjoy the magic..
