Here's some mushrooms I found yesterday for this #mushroommonday by @balticbadger

I found a big stash of oyster mushrooms on the side of a tree.

The whole tree had them growing up the side of it.

Plenty of them for a good meal.

This oyster dried out a bit with an interesting gill pattern.

This is the typical gill pattern.

I also found some amber jelly roll aka exidia recisa. I harvested this to dry for later use in a soup.

Next I scored a little batch of wood ear, this photo show how it starts out.

Eventually the little shrek ears start growing into bigger leafy shapes.

I like to use wood ear in various Asian meals.

With all this woodear and oysters I decided to make a stir fry.

I give all the harvested mushrooms a wash in salt water and rinse them a few times to get the bugs and bark off of them.

Then I sorted them out. The middle black pile is the amber jelly roll that will get dried for future use. The wood ear and oysters will go in the stir fry.

My stir fry recipe is pretty basic. I used bell pepper, onions, garlic, zucchini, chicken, carrots, oyster mushrooms, wood ear, shiitake and ginger. While all these cook in some olive oil I add some salt and cayenne pepper. Later I add an Asian brown sauce for flavor.

Here's the end result, not too photogenic. But it tasted good.

My fiance loved it and we ended up having no leftovers.

Its all about the gourmet edibles. Wisconsin and illinois are perfect mushroom hunting grounds. I am envious of the boletes in your area, this year has been sparse for them over here.

Wow! Lucky you! Finding so many mushrooms in the woods!! The recipe looks great! May I have a bowl of that please?!

We pigged out on it lol. I bet the stir fries in your area are way better than mine. This one would have been perfect if i had cooked it maybe 5 minutes less. Some of the vegetables lost their snap. But the wild mushrooms helped save it.

Those mushrooms look amazing. I live in Upstate NY and I am just now getting around to identifying wild mushrooms. I just picked a lions mane, it was really big and it was so delicious, I added it to a stir fry also.
The first time I saw one was a few weeks ago when my hubby brought it home from a farmer's market.
Nice post !

My sister lives there too and finds lots of wild mushrooms like hen of the woods etc.

That's some good eating, alright! I like soaking Exidia recisa in a hot lime sugar syrup, then drying them. They are good in soup, too. They are one of the first mushrooms, beyond morels, that I learned on my own with enough confidence to eat. So I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the squishy little things. Happy mushroom hunting!

I soak them in salt, lime and chili powder. My favorite use for them is in menudo as a replacement for beef tripe. It basically has the same texture as tripe.
