Buddhist Drawings Influenced from Christianity in the Exhibition for Goryeo Dynasty

in #museum5 years ago

I could see some buddhist drawings which seemed to be influence from the culture of Christianity.

The drawings were founded on the area of Don Whang which was located on the silk road.
When this painting was drawn, it was strongly influenced from the Orthodox Church.
These paintings were borrowed from the foreign museums to compare with those of Goryeo dynasty

These paintings are Jijang Bodhisattva who cares for the dead.
What attack my eyes was the background of those paintings

The background of the boddisattva was as same as the halo of the christianity paintings.

In my guess, this painting is the evidence of the mixture between the culture of Christianity and Buddhism.

The drawing below has a green halo is very impressive. For me, it was a first chance to see those green color of the halo among Buddhist paintings.

I thought this painting was also deeply influenced from Christianity culture.
It was not a good condition to take the photos due to the dark illumination.

@slowwalker, you taken brilliant photo clicks under the dark illumination. These paintings very different than previous Buddhism paintings. It mean that was influence from the culture of Christianity.

The complexity of the drawing looked already amazing even when it was not iluminated in your images ... what more if it is únder natural light!

The Buddha face radiates so much of calmness and Peace.

Yes it wasn't a good lightening conditioning to take the photos but definitely I can see them very clear. Wow these drawings are of Jijang Bodhisattva who cares for the dead? You're right it seems to look like it was inspired by the Christians art of Jesus, awesome shot buddy.

We can describe that the painting has similar but in my opinion, Buddhist is older than Christianity. halo behind Buddhist describe about chakras, light and energy of life. Every one hopes that they can get it.
And you send us a beautiful post.
Thank you @slowwalker

These are fascinating ! You can see the obvious connection and hell these are BAD ASS. Great research and connection - love the post! ❤️❤️❤️☕️ have a fabulous Friday !!

You are right, there is a similarity between the reflection of Orthodox and Buddhism in the painting, but that only confirms that even in the past there were many people who were adventure and explorer, traveling so far always and learning new things and the same time leaving their prints and influence. I love that and therefore I am for open and free movement. This is something unfortunately we are facing now in UK with Brexit, when there is a chance of having no freedom of movement within Europe anymore.

The paintings are unique and I am glad you shared it with us :)
