I'm a really bad dancer. At all. When I dance I look awkward as a cow on roller skates)). But I like movies about dancing).
Here's compilation of my favorite films about dancing. The main thing that unites them is ordinary people. That's why you won't find here Chicago or Black Swan.
1. Shall we dance (2004)
I think I watched this movie dozens of times. It's a romantic comedy starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.
John Clark is a workaholic tired of the routine of everyday life. One day he sees a dance school and decides to start dancing. His hobby grows into his life. He begins to feel the taste for life and dances radically change him.
This film is brilliant in its simplicity. "Shall we dance" looks very simple and you feel a constant smile on your face. John lives in Groundhog Day. He wakes up, have a breakfast, kisses his wife, goes to work, goes home, kisses his wife and falls asleep. Dancing was a salvation for him. This is an entertaining movie. But meanwhile it has a deep meaning. We grow up and lose our dreams. How to find yourself again? That is the main question when you become an adult.
And age should not be a limitation of trying something new. So, shall we dance?)

2. Billy Elliot (2000)
Billy Elliot - a son of a miner. It is assumed that he must be interested in boxing because he's a boy and he must love sports. But Billy wants to dance...ballet. The whole city is against it. Is it a man's business to dance?
The film is hard to watch. The guy has a dream. How many can boast that their dream came true? That they became what they wanted to be in childhood? When you watch these films, you are always happy, if a person turns out to realize his dream.
"Billy Elliot" is a film with one meaning - Believe in yourself and everything will turn out.

3. Desert Dancer (2014)
"Desert Dancer" based on true story of Afshin Ghaffarian - a young dancer from Iran. He learned to dance watching videos on YouTube. Although dances are forbidden in Iran and he could be killed for his hobbies.
Afshin Ghaffarian did not give up his love of dancing even on pain of death. What kind of life is it, if you can not engage in the expression of your thoughts and feelings? This is a film about people who get a fire inside of them. Such films are necessary, because They remind that there are places on the planet where self-expression is forbidden.
A film shooting was in a real desert, the actors gave themselves completely to the dance in the heat, without air conditioning.

4. Dirty Dancing (1987)
That's the classic of my childhood). 17 year-old Frances "Baby" Houseman meets dancer instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). After acquaintance, her life changes dramatically.
"Dirty Dancing" is full of passion. Sexuality pours from the screen - from every sight, word, movement. This is a story how a modest girl turns into a real woman due to the dance. Dancing, she becomes sexy, relaxed and free.
Separately I want to mention a great soundtrack. The song «(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life» got Oscar for "Best Original Song".
The film is incredible and if you have not watched it yet, I do not know what you spent your time on).

5. Step Up (2006)
Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a street dancer. Tyler finds himself in a dance school, in which he is forced to serve a sentence for his hooliganism.
This film raises questions about a young guy life on the street. His friends are interested in drugs and easy prey for money. No one is waiting for him at home. He has one choice - to become a criminal.
Dance is one of the most beautiful ways of self-expression. A real dance, coming from the heart, will be much more beautiful than any classical without light in dancer eyes. The protagonist understands it and chooses the right path.
