Is BLACK PANTHER Good Enough?

in #movies6 years ago

Having crossed the Billion dollar mark in revenue, BLACK PANTHER is one of the most successful movies of all time. With all that success though, one might wonder at it’s Oscar success. The Academy has at least some track record with rewarding box office hits (like TITANIC for example) but in recent years, as “Oscar Worthy” movies and box office hits grow further and further apart, one wonders about a film so popular and widely loved.

Is BLACK PANTHER good enough to win the top prize (or even be nominated)? Or is it just so much more superhero mediocrity?

I believe it’ll be nominated but won’t receive an Oscar.

I thought it was exceedingly mediocre. I did not find anything compelling about it. But then I don't believe there's anything special about Oscars themselves. It's all a giant circlejerk.

the oscars' winner selection policies have changed a lot over the years, maybe they are no longer based on just box office success, we'll see the results very soon, happy night.

It may be nominated, but win. I am not so sure

Without a doubt

I think that that number: "Billion dollar", is just out of context. I mean, there should be a more adjusted mesure. The amount of money a movie can make is proportional to the population with actual access to a movie theater and that is also related to the size of the global population. If you could extrapolate those numbers to, for example, how much it could have made in 1997, would it be calified as a success?
