As I wrote recently it has become very popular to restart old movies in the form of TV series. There wasn't an exception for the horror film of 1973 - "The Exorcist." The fim was nominated for Oscar, and also included in the list of 250 best movies by IMDb.

Let's find out if the series was a worthy successor.

PLOT

A parishioner goes to Father Thomas. She noticed something strange in her house and thinks that one of her daughters is possessed by the devil. Father Thomas, assessing the situation, is forced to go to the famous exorcist Father Marcus, who was excommunicated for his unconventional approach to exorcism.

At the moment, one season is available, consisting of 10 series. The premiere of the second is scheduled for September 29, 2017.

RESUME

The film "The Exorcist"(1973) is not my favorite horror movie. At one time, I was impressed by the film "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." I watched it when I was young age and remember that a few nights later I had to sleep with the lamp on).

I like horror, but often I try not to watch novelties. Moreover, in recent years horrors have not been taken by horrors, but by the effect of surprise. Therefore, the series "The Exorcist" was immediately pleasantly surprised by the gloomy and oppressive atmosphere in which it felt that soon the real hard would come.

The creators managed to create a strong and terrible drama. The plot covers not only the problems of one family, but also shows changes in the Catholic Church. Modernity and progress made it change. It is no longer customary to talk about demons, the devil and other demonic things, now they interpret the Bible in a new way - demons are alcohol, drugs, etc. The church begins to deny the possibility of Spirit possession. Priests deny the spiritual possession of a girl a cure by prayer, they offer her to go to the hospital, because it's no more within their jurisdiction. Here is another twist of time.

Moreover, the series offers us to think about one more interesting question. When the priest Thomas torments the question of who to turn to for help, the same night he dreams of an exorcist - Brother Marcus. Is this God's providence? We are shown the reaction of Brother Thomas and his emotional torment in this matter. It would seem that he is a priest, he dedicated his life to the service to God .... and does not believe in Him?

We''ll get a mixture of detective and horror, organic, tenacious and gloomy, even in something atypical. So I'm glad that the story is shown to us in TV series - so, we have the opportunity to observe the disclosure of several storylines than in the one and a half hour film.

I advise you before reviewing the series to revise the original source, because there will be many references and surprises. But in any case, you are waiting for an excellent acting, a grim narration and scary scenes (sometimes I had goosebumps). Special effects are also good enough. In general, this is a very high-quality worst thing. Someone thinks that the first series is listless, but I liked such a slow immersion in the gray atmosphere of the plot.

I hope in the future "THE Exorcist" will not roll into Supernatural (I love this show but last seasons makes me cry tears of blood) and the second season will please us with new demons).
