Oh man, that Psycho shower scene is possibly the most important sequence in film history. I remember dissecting it frame-by-frame in film school. FYI, Hitchcock is credited for the mastery, but there's some dispute over who directed this sequence–the original storyboard is drawn by Saul Bass. Here's an article on this subject, and the storyboard, in case you're interested.
Definitely one of the most famous scenes. We never dissected it in class, but it's iconic for sure. Saul Bass was a legend himself. I love his movie openings, especially those he made for Hitchcock.
The thing is, with auteurs like Hitchcock, that people almost forget that there's a whole team of people behind a movie. There's a Germans word for it: 'Gesamtkunstwerk'. As you're probably aware of, HItchcock was kind of a dictator on set though. He tried to control everything. I didn't know that that wasn't the case for this scene. I guess I learnt something. Thank you :)

So.... how many cuts and shots does the scene consist of, for god's sake man! You can't leave me hanging like that. Excellent post, happy to have found you and I will be glad to accompany you as a participant observer on your consistency experiment. Keep 'em coming.

Hi "totally not a bot" @carlgnash Nice to hear that you enjoyed my post. I had to look up the answer myself, haha, it's 78 shots for the 45 second stabbing scene. It apparently took 7 days to shoot the scene. Pretty amazing, right. Great initiative by the way. I will do my best to respond to it in a more thorough way in due time.
