Michael B. Jordan ~ 2019 Cinema Vanguard Award
Michael B. Jordan was celebrated in Santa Barbara, California, last night as the 2019 Santa Barbara International Film Festival's Cinema Vanguard Award winner. Academy award winner Jamie Foxx (2005, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Ray) was on hand to present the award.
The evening began with a teaser montage featuring some of the superstar's most memorable moments in film and television, followed by an interview interspersed with film clips that took us through his early days in television on The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, and even the soap opera All My Children, right through roles in the films Red Tails and Chronicle.
His role as Oscar Grant in Fruitvale Station was the one where I first started to notice MBJ. He went on to play Adonis Johnson in Creed, and now Creed II, with intervening performances as Guy Montag in Farenheit 451 ( a role that I was disappointed to see left out of the evening's discussion) and, of course, the role everyone is talking about, Erik Killmonger in Black Panther!
After some wonderful remarks by Jamie Foxx, the award was presented and the evening concluded with Michael B. Jordan's acceptance speech. From soap operas to superstar, this young man is the real deal. He started a production company that already has two projects in the works, so watch out for more from Micheal B. Jordan!
