Movies | Super Mustache: The story of the mustache that cost millions of dollars.

in #movies6 years ago
I had never heard that a mustache caused as much controversy and laughter as the now famous Superman mustache, and I say now famous because I don’t know if in a couple of years someone will remember this curious anecdote of the world of entertainment. But in case you have never heard about the man of steel's mustache, I will tell you the story.

Almost every big movie, particularly superproductions with a huge budget, after being filmed goes through a scheduled session of reshoots in order to redo some scenes or add new dialogues after the first version is tested. This is done with the purpose of correcting the parts that didn’t work or where the implementation of the original vision of the director or the study was not satisfactory enough, in short, the goal is to improve the quality of the final product that is the film. The Justice League, a movie where Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg would meet for the first time, was no exception. The problem is that this production was plagued with inconvenients since its inception and it was necessary to extend the reshoots time beyond the scheduled.

This caused conflicts with the filming of the new installment of Mission Impossible, in which Henry Cavill (the actor who has recently given life to Superman) played a character. Although Paramount Pictures, the studio responsible for Mission Impossible, allowed the actor to attend the reshoots of Justice League, he was not allowed to shave off the mustache his character in MI had to wear. For this reason Cavill had to do his new scenes as Superman wearing the facial hair legally required by Paramount.

The story of Superman's mustache generated an infinity of memes on the internet, especially within the geek community, which follows the news related to their favorite characters. Unfortunately not everything went well for Justice League, which among many problems had to add having rushed special effects that didn't go unnoticed, including those used to remove with CGI (computer generated images) the mustache of the actor with a rumored cost of a few million dollars that in the end weren't satisfactory for the demanding fans.

If something should be admired is Cavill's attitude and good sense of humor about it, which can be seen in interviews and videos uploaded by himself. Here I leave some examples of that:

All rights to the images of Mission Impossible: Fallout belong to Paramount Pictures.

I wish Superman had a moustache like the top image, it could be what saves the DCEU.
