The Meyerowitz Stories
M. Stories (New and Selected) is a Netflix distributed movie starring Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson and directed by Noah Baumbach. Telling the story of a minor sculpture artist / professor in NYC who’s approaching the end of the life and recounts the interactions between his children from two different wives. The prominent dynamic is the unequal father-son relations received by Sandler and Stiller, each with their own hurts and grievances.
Sandler is a stay-at-home Dad with daughter leaving for college and Stiller as a successful Wealth Advisor. The have each lived different yet parallel lives, struggling with their relations and their place in the unusual family dynamics. Each male lead does an excellent job portraying the emotions, illusions, and disappoints that Mr. Meyerowitz’s end of life scenario draws out. As a fan of Hoffman and Stiller I enjoyed the movie and Sandler gives a strong dramatic performance as well. 3 out of 4 stars.
