[Review]War for the planet of the apes

The third movie in the Planet of the apes series. Bigger, better and looking as real as possible, this movie defenitely outrun the previous two. I went to see the movie at July the 13th, when it first entered the theaters in my country (The Netherlands). I didn't see the previous two in cinema, but rather at home, on my tv, but I still had the feeling that the newest movie outrun the previous two by far.

The movie describes the story of a war between a group of intelligent apes and a group of humans. With Caesar, the leader of the apes companied by some other apes, leaving the group to find The Colonel, the group of apes tried to reach a safe place by themselves. The Colonel, however, had different plans. As the leader of the humans, he wanted to kill all the apes. He had the simple logic of "Apes are better than humans, so they will take over the world if we don't stop them now, so we have to kill them now".

Ofcourse, he doesn't succeed. He does emprison the apes and Caesar is also captured, but with the help of some fellow apes who were still outside of the "working camp", they could escape. Their escape was just on time, as the camp was attacked by a group of soldier from the north only a couple seconds after. Because of a large avalanche, this new group of soldiers was also killed and the apes reached their final destination.

With the constant conflict between "The Colonel", who is a "bad guy" human played by Woody Harrelson, and Caesar, who is a "good guy" ape played by Andy Serkis, the movie defenitely kept its pace and kept tension in it throughout the movie. After the apes pick up a little girl they later call "Nova", played by Amiah Miller, the movie turnt into a war which wasn't purely "Apes vs Humans". It showed not only the bad things, but also the good things of humanity. An ape who joined the group later on, gave the movie a funny twist too. With its nickname of "Bad Ape", he turnt this war drama into a comical war drama.

The graphics of this movie were very impressing too. The apes looked very realistic and all movements were really smooth. With only a few exceptions in tiny time frames, I wouldn't be able to distinguish the real from the "fake" apes. With the help of special motion-capturing suits and ape expert Allan Henry, the movements of the apes were unbelievably smooth.

All in all, I really liked the movie. It was great from the beginning till the end in all aspects. Detailed characters, beautiful filming, great acting, amazing graphics and good casting.

And who knows... Maybe we'll even be able to enjoy it another time, in the next Planet of the Apes movie!
