Article 15

in #movie5 years ago

It's 2019 and even today sometimes people try to find out your caste through various ways before they want to know anything else about you. In a country deeply rooted in religion, religious intolerance, caste discrimination is quite rampant in a culturally vibrant nation as India. This post is a mix of my thoughts on the subject as well as the movie.

This is certainly one of the things that's holding back true progress in our nation in my opinion. Article 15 explores caste discrimination, social inequality and injustice in a manner that's very much thought provoking, somewhat unapologetically to your sensitive sensibilities, hits hard when it must and remains compelling throughout.

This is a must watch movie for everyone. It brings to light social issues that's often brushed under the carpet in modern India. The writing is largely good, impactful and the acting is phenomenal from Ayushmann Khurana. Overall performances from the casting is solid. The writing does goof up in a few areas but that's forgivable.

The fantastic direction and film making keeps you gripped to the cinematic experience even as the atmosphere of the movie gets a bit dark. One might even experience goose bumps as the feel is sometimes grim. There's plenty of emotions to go around here.

This movie is based around the Badaun rape case but it speaks of the reality across the length and breadth of the country nonetheless.

Even as we Indians have accepted our constitution and are over 70 years into our independence from the British, we are far from truly following the Article 15 from our constitution which prohibits the state from discriminating any citizen on ground of any religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them. We ignore this in our daily lives as we break a hundred other rules.

The movie has a feel of a crime thriller and it certainly explores the subject very well. The director does well to bring out the characters and the narrative might keep you on the edge of the seat. It's worth every penny spent on it. This is a movie that everyone in contemporary India must watch, and have a conversation about.

I'm sure many of us including myself have faced casteist people in our lives growing up in India and faced different kinds of discrimination. This movie at times is in your face, and that's a good thing. Because let's face it, we're a nation of ignorant, bigoted people at times that follow archaic traditions and practices blindly without a care for reason or logic.

Don't miss this movie for anything. If you are going to spend your money on a movie this weekend, do it on this one!

8/10 is my rating and I recommend you to go watch it!

Sounds interesting and we were actually thinking of going to movies this weekend but were not sure what to watch, so thanks for the review and hopefully we can see Article 15

I definetly want to see this movie, planning to go in a day or two.
Honor killing still prevails in many parts of India and it is such a sad and disgusting act. Just for nothing people lose lives.

It's the harsh truth of our country :/ Discrimination still exists, whether its a small town or big metro, one way or another it prevails. Even i faced few situations.
Talking about movie, i have to see it yet but reading your thoughts on it, I've decided to watch it tomorrow itself. I don't want to miss out the good movies on big screen as Good movies are rare in Bollywood.

In our daily lives we can discriminate against someone without knowing. The reason why it breaks even though it is stipulated by law is because it doesn't think it is discrimination. If this discrimination is expressed in films like <Article 15> and is known and recognized by many, I think it will be greatly reduced.
The reason why the Badaun rape case shows the reality of the country is to show that discrimination is prevalent around us.
