Who is in the movie?

The cast of characters in Avengers Grimm: Time Wars includes:

  • Rumpelstiltskin (Eric Feltes) - He is one of the villains of the film. He's supposed to be the character from the folk tale of the same name. His powers are based on mind control. He helps Magda in her mission to take over the surface world.

  • Snow White (Lauren Parkinson) - She is supposed to be the character from the fairy tale of the same name. Her powers are based on ice magic. Snow White is awakened from her frozen sleep to fight Magda and Rumpelstiltskin. She must save her beloved Prince Charming.

  • Sleeping Beauty (Marah Fairclough) - She is supposed to be the character from the fairy tale of the same name. She has the power to make people fall asleep. Beauty is a member of this film's Avengers and helps with trying to take down Magda and Rumpelstiltskin.

  • Little Red Riding Hood (Elizabeth Eileen) - She is supposed to be the character from the fairy tale of the same name. Her thing is archery. Red is a member of this film's Avengers and helps with trying to take down Magda and Rumpelstiltskin.

  • Prince Charming (Michael Marcel) - He is the former love interest of Snow White and meant to be the character from the same fairy tale. Magda is chasing him down with the intentions of making him marry her.

  • Alice (Christina Lucciardi) - She is supposed to be the character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She runs the Looking Glass Asylum and makes it her mission to send the fairy tale folk back to their own worlds through the use of the Magic Mirror. Alice gets the princesses back together to fight Magda and Rumpelstiltskin. She makes use of the ability to grow and shrink in the same vein as Ant-Man.

  • The Mad Hatter (Randall Yarbourgh) - He is supposed to be the character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Hatter is Alice's assistant at the Looking Glass Asylum.

  • Magda (Katherine Maya) - She is the ruler of Atlantis and the main villain of the movie. She invades the surface world in search of Prince Charming with the intention of marrying him.

When does this movie take place?

It takes place some time after Avengers Grimm and Sinister Squad. There is no specification on the time, so I'm going to assume it's present day 2018.

Where does this movie take place?

The film doesn't specify where it takes place either, but I'm going to assume we are still in Los Angeles, California for the portions of the movie that take place in our world.

What is the movie about?

The film is a "mock-buster" of the Avengers films and the television shows Grimm and Once Upon a Time. It is a sequel to Avengers Grimm and Sinister Squad.

The film opens with the arrival of Prince Charming coming through a portal onto a beach. The ruler of Atlantis, Magda, arrives shortly after and is chasing after the prince. It seems that she is planning a wedding and the prince is trying to flee from it. Prince Charming manages to run away from Magda. She summons a massive army of soldiers from the beneath the ocean and orders them to invade the city. They must find Prince Charming.

Alice and The Mad Hatter observe what's happening on the streets below from the computer monitors in their tower. They decide it is time to wake up Snow White from cryostasis. Snow White will need to assemble the team of Avengers back together and stop this new evil that threatens our world. It doesn't take long for them to reunite with Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood. It is up to them to find Prince Charming and stop Magda from taking over the surface world.

Unbeknownst to Alice and the princesses, Rumpelstiltskin has returned from ruling the Underworld and has offered his services to Magda. He knows what the princesses are capable of and can help Magda. However, if you're good at something, you never do it for free. Rumpelstiltskin wants something in return for helping Magda capture Prince Charming.

The two forces collide with each other in a battle of good versus evil, but ultimately Rumpelstiltskin manages to use trickery to gain the upper hand. He is able to send the princesses back to their individual fairy tale worlds using broken shards from the Magic Mirror located in Alice's possession. They weren't just sent back to their own worlds, but they've been sent back in time too.

With Alice's help, it is up to the princesses to find their way back to our world and the present timeline. They must stop Magda and Rumpelstiltskin's evil plans.

Why is this happening?

Magda is on a mission to marry Prince Charming. He is the rightful ruler of all the land and whoever he marries can share in that. The catch is that he must be the one who proposes to the woman he loves. Magda wants to conquer the surface world and she intends on capitalizing on this stipulation in marrying Prince Charming to complete this task.

Another Rumpelstiltskin has arrived in our world too. He is supposed to be the same one from Sinister Squad because he mentions having grown tired of ruling the Underworld. Apparently, there are multiple people named Rumpelstiltskin in this universe and they all seem to be evil. The one from Avengers Grimm is not the same one from this movie. His goal in Avengers Grimm Time Wars is to help Magda achieve her goal of taking over the surface world, but he wants to be the ruler of Atlantis in exchange for his services. However, that is a con in itself as he's tries to marry Prince Charming under the guise of Snow White himself.

How was the movie?

Contrary to what the title of the film might make you believe, this one doesn't really take the opportunity to borrow elements from Avengers: Infinity War. No. This film seems to be the most original of the trilogy. It doesn't hold onto continuity still, but it does seem to do it's own thing with the world it's set up. It deals with time travel rather than gathering some magic stones to destroy half of the life in the known universe. That's something. I'm not a hundred percent sure who Magda's character is supposed to be. I couldn't find any kind of fairy tale it was referencing or anything in Atlantis lore that points to who the character should be. She isn't Ariel. She isn't the Sea Witch. I'm thinking she might be an original character. I don't know.

They bring Alice and The Mad Hatter back. I'm surprised they got the same actors to reprise their roles considering Sinister Squad has a flimsy connection with Avengers Grimm. Alice is written to be the same character, but The Mad Hatter seems to be a little less of a burn out druggie this time around. He's cleaned up his act a bit. That's sort of an okay change I don't mind being inconsistent. I'm a big fan of all things Alice's Adventures in Wonderland related. I guess they can be considered my favorite characters in the series. They're poor representations, but I guess they're my favorites. I do find giving Alice the ability to grow and shrink in size a la Ant-Man was an amusing addition to her character this time around.

We get Rumpelstiltskin again as their go to villain in the series. I don't know why they haven't decided to utilize other fairy tale villains. They've managed to retcon their continuity problems with this character. Apparently, there are more than one Rumpelstiltskin in this universe. The one that appeared in Avengers Grimm is not the same one that appears in this film. Funny enough, this is supposed to be the same character from Sinister Squad despite being recast and his characterization is changed again. He's still a conman, but he isn't the same character at all.

The film itself is pretty much the same as the other two. Bad acting. Bad special effects. Bad writing. Lazy movie sets. Fun times to be had watching a bad movie. The poster is very misleading. It makes you think that Rumpelstiltskin is the film's main villain again, but he's only a supporting character in this one. Magda is positioned in the poster to appear to being one of the princesses in the film. You could mistake her for Ariel if you're familiar with the series, but haven't seen this film yet. I just found that to be interesting. Check it out if you like watching back movies. Just make sure to check out Avengers Grimm and Sinister Squad first to have some context.
