Who is in the movie?

The cast of characters in Avengers Grimm includes:

  • Rumpelstiltskin (Casper Van Dien) - He is the villain of the film, representing the titular character from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. His character has the ability to brainwash others into doing his bidding with mind control. The character feels like he's supposed to be a stand in for Marvel's Loki.

  • Iron John (Lou Ferrigno) - He is a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. Iron John is a leader of a street gang in another world. He gains iron skin later in the film. It's obviously a mash up of Marvel's Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

  • The Big Bad Wolf (Kimo Leopoldo) - He is a large, feral man who works for Rumpelstiltskin. He is meant to be the same character from the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. He can smell people's fear. He's more of a beastly man rather than an actual wolf.

  • Snow White ( Lauren Parkinson) - She is meant to be a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. Snow White has ice-based magic powers.

  • Cinderella (Milynn Sarley) - She is a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. Her power is transmutation. Here's an example. She turns a gun into a bouquet of flowers.

  • Sleeping Beauty (Marah Fairclough) -She is a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. She has the ability to make people fall asleep.

  • Rapunzel (Rileah Vanderbilt) - She is a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. She uses her hair as a rope and a whip to be her weapon.

  • Little Red Riding Hood (Elizabeth Peterson) - She is a representation of the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. Her thing is archery. She's meant to be the Hawkeye of the group.

  • Jessica (Justine Herron) - She is the secretary of Rumpelstiltskin and works under his control.

  • Jack (Jonathan Medina) - He is an informant who gives Snow White information to help take down Rumpelstiltskin.

  • Officer Ernst (Daniel Nemes) - He is a police officer working Rumpelstiltskin's control. They are used to gain new recruits for his army.

  • Officer LaGuardia (Henry Brown) - He is a police officer working for Rumpelstiltskin. Officer LaGuardia ends up becoming one of Rumpelstiltskin's thralls in his army.

When does this movie take place?

2015? There's no indication of a specific time period, but the film seems to take place in a modern day setting.

Where does this movie take place?

The film takes place in Los Angeles, California. Characters are transferred through a magic portal from their world into ours.

What is the movie about?

This film is a “mock-buster” of the Avengers movies and the television shows Once Upon a Time and Grimm.

Snow White's kingdom is under attack by her own army. She goes to the throne room to ask the Magic Mirror where Prince Charming is, but has no luck in locating her husband. Rumpelstiltskin arrives with The Big Bad Wolf by his side. The army is under the influence of Rumpelstiltskin's mind control power. He offers to stop the attack on her kingdom, Snow White must use the Magic Mirror to send him to a world without magic. She continues to demand to know where Prince Charming is, but it's revealed The Big Bad Wolf has killed him. In a fit of rage, Snow White uses the Magic Mirror to open a portal for Rumpelstiltskin. She takes him hostage with her ice powers and enters the portal with him and leave The Big Bad Wolf behind.

Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty arrive on the scene shortly after and discover Snow White is missing from her kingdom. Little Red Riding Hood's only concern is to find The Big Bad Wolf, but the other princesses insist they must find Snow White and stop Rumpelstiltskin. The Big Bad Wolf attacks the women. During the fight, The Big Bad Wolf accidentally shatters the Magic Mirror by throwing Little Red Riding Hood through it. This causes the Magic Mirror to open it's portal and sends them into the other world too.

Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf have disappeared. It is revealed Little Red Riding Hood has a shard of glass from the Magic Mirror stuck in her back. The others are met with hostility by a couple of police officers who were harassing a man named Jack. The princesses manage to take out the officers, but sirens can be heard in the distance. Snow White arrives on the scene in a sports car to save them.

It turns out the princesses have found themselves in modern day Los Angeles, California on Earth. Time moves differently than the fairy tale universe. Six months have passed in this world. Rumpelstiltskin is known as Mayor Heart in Los Angeles. He has started his rise to power and begins forcing people swept off of the street into becoming members of his thrall army.

It'll be up to the princesses and Little Red Riding Hood to stop Rumpelstiltskin and The Big Bad Wolf before they do any more damage in this world.

Why is this happening?

It's pretty simple. Rumpelstiltskin wants to become the god of our world. The Asylum claims the film is meant to be a knock off of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it feels more like the first Avengers movie. Rumpelstiltskin feels more like he's supposed to be a Loki type character.

Magic doesn't exist on Earth. Rumpelstiltskin will use his power of mind control to slowly build an army and take over the world. The standard kind of villainy. I wouldn't have expected anything too deep from a film by The Asylum. It is meant to be a rip off of another film.

How was the movie?

With Avengers: Infinity War having recently hit theaters, I decided to have a little fun and watch a dumb mock-buster movie. That's kind of what the studio The Asylum is known for. If you've ever seen a DVD on a store shelf and the movie looks similar to something that's currently in theaters, but the title is just slightly off. It's a good chance that it's a production by The Asylum. That's their bread and butter. Making dumb knock off movies.

I was working on a review for a different movie of theirs, but it turns out that the movie was a sequel to this one. So, I decided to go ahead and watch Avengers Grimm. It is exactly what the title suggests it is. It's a superhero type of film, but it features characters from The Brothers Grimm fairy tales. The title isn't exactly the most creative choice. They didn't change anything. They just took the word Avenger and the name Grimm and slapped them together.

Don't expect much from the film. The special effects look cheap. The acting is over the top and hammy. We get an appearance from Lou Ferrigno. That's something. Funny enough, his character is clearly a play on The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. More Hulk than Iron Man though. His character's name is Iron John. He has iron skin. Yeah. That's about far as it goes. I would say you could compare him to the X-Men character Colossus more than anything else. The rest of the fairy tale characters are just modernized versions of who they're supposed to be, but they're given special powers to make them more... super? heroic? super-heroic? I don't know.

To be honest, I kind of like the idea. I think the idea of taking fairy tale characters and placing them in modern day settings is a cool idea. It kind of reminds me of the Fable comic book series. They do the same thing. That comic takes fairy tale characters and sticks them in a Noir type setting. That's one thing Avengers Grimm has going for it. It doesn't do a whole lot with the idea, but it can be kind of interesting.

Would I recommend watching it? Well, it depends on the kind of person you are. I'm the type of person who enjoys watching bad movies. They can be fun. I'm not talking about movies that were meant to be taken seriously and end up being an utter failure at what they're trying to accomplish. No. I'm talking about those movies you can tell are supposed to be silly. The kind of movies that are so bad that they're good. Or the type of movies that are made to be bad movies on purpose. I know some people that consider watching these kinds of films to be a waste of time. So, I guess it depends on what kind of person you are.

It's a dumb Avengers rip off after all.

Best regards,
Achim

I have watched this movie already.
In Germany, we have a television programm called "worst movies of all time" were they broadcast b-movies and movies that just have not aged well at all with some commentary in written form while the movie and spoken form after the breaks by some comedians. I really enjoy watching these movies that I probably wouldnt watch otherwise like this.
