Movie Review: A Quiet Place (2018) - EN

"The first ideas of A Quiet Place appeared in college years. It's been years we've put an embarrassment on silent cinema; Charlie Chaplin, F.W. Murnau, Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati. These filmmakers were masters of visual storytelling. They did not even use a single line of dialogue to convey character, emotion, or intention. It was the purest of cinema. Alien,
Jaws and dozens of Hitchcock film, we started thinking about whether we could put the visual techniques of the quiet cinema in the early 20th century into the molds of today's genre films. Thus A Quiet Place was born. The idea behind A Quiet Place is simple: if you make a sound you will die.

In fact, the idea is so simple that it seems almost useless. We designed the outline of the emulation that focused on a family (and deaf girls) who lived under the threat of a susceptible dangerous creature years ago.
When we showed the brief synopsis of the scenario to the producers or friends, they were looking blankly, clearly indicating that the idea was useless. We lifted the project by saying that maybe they were right. Nightlight (2015), which we directed, was shown only on a handful of hits and obviously did not care about the audience.

We lived up to the rightful pride of the film, but the audience's lack of interest led us to worry about whether we could shoot a movie again. We concentrated on low-budget ideas. At the same time, we were examining the careers of our heroes that M. Night Shyamalan is at the top of his list.

What we like most about Shyamalan films is that the films work on many levels; with great character nuances and easy-to-follow engaging ideas to tell multi-layered stories. That's when we realized that A Quiet Place was not just a fun idea. It was also the metaphor for the collapse of intra-family communication.

I immediately tried to write the script but it was a scenario that did not fit the general rules. We knew that the 67-page script containing only one line of dialogue seemed strange. Many producers would laugh, but still wanted to try our luck in Hollywood. We knew the results for what we had tried many times before; most of the time it is not possible to sell the script, you are accepted for the most general interview, and if you are lucky or talk about things like what else is in your hands, your scenario will be delayed to wait for development and the script will eventually disappear, eventually disappearing and the project will be canceled.
So when we found out that the script was sent to the Platinum Dunes by Michael Bay, we had zero expectation. A week later, Michael Bay was in the producer's chair. We found out later that Mr. Paramount pressed Paramount to take this film, and a few days later Paramount bought the script.

When we said that things could not get any worse, we read on the phone John Krasinski's story and got the news that he loved. Emily Blunt read it, too. Both wanted to play in the movie, and John wanted to run it. Cinematographer Charlotte Bruus Christensen wanted to film.

Paramount also set April 2018 as the date of film. When we were so accustomed to the answer "no", getting so many "yes" answers turned our heads. "
Afterwards, the film was shot as planned and the show took place on April 13 in our country - a week after the US.

A Quiet Place, "89. Day ".
We first see a family of mothers, fathers, and girls, and two boys, three boys, who have never spoken to each other and have agreed with sign language. The opening sequence, which they follow from a groovy strip to follow their silent progress and get what they need from a dilapidated market, filmin post-apocalyptic world. There is no information about exactly what is happening, but thanks to clues such as news reports and newspaper clippings, it appears that about three months ago the world was being invaded (possibly by extraterrestrial beings) and few people were able to survive.
There are also creatures that are hypersensitive to SESE but not visually impaired, who are not hesitating for a moment when they come out to the right after the slightest sound to be ejected and to destroy them.

A traumatic event is happening at the end of the 89th day of the introductory episode, which presents such a curious post-apocalyptic world, and the movie goes on to the 479th day after about a year later, and transfers it again in about a day.

The century that we are in is sure that human relations are getting better,
the lack of communication has reached the stage and technological toys, especially intelligent mobile phones, will be called as the period when people devoured their social side without fail. Nobody listens to each other anymore; even if you go somewhere with your nearest person, you are more interested in the phone than you are, and perhaps you do not hear much of what you are talking about. Needless to say, one must also note the endless noise pollution in large cities. Numerous voices emerge from the ever-increasing use of fossil fuels, it becomes almost impossible to find a silent corner when it comes to construction noises, crowded voices, screaming, calling, fighting, siren, etc., when one person in almost every street is finished. It is not possible to hear the noise, the slightest sound in the world in the film that is going to happen in the near future.

But it is quite meaningful if it is necessary for the vast majority of humanity to be destroyed after a threat from outside to provide this silence. A Quiet Place is trying to communicate the lack of communica with over the family it receives. Robot like markete go shopping, returning home the same way, we are not so unfamiliar with family scenes that sit at dinner and rarely speak except for a few essential sentences. Yes, this is an obligation now in the world of film, but eventually, with a sign language, a communication channel is open. However, it seems that the family does not take advantage of it enough. Dad usually speaks very briefly,
he only gives short, clear sentences and directives as he focuses on survival and protecting the family. Their mother's talk is a little longer, and the family includes worries about other people's emotional situations. As children know, they usually throw a lot of things into it and accumulate it, they are experiencing the moment of explosion when they have gotten wrong ideas. The tragedy at the end of the 89th day has affected almost every individual in the family. To survive, they have to talk to each other and solve the problem, but they can not.
Unfortunate that the main problems continue to evolve after an emerging crisis, and almost everyone's regrets continue to preserve their existence. So there is no change in the problem of lack of communication before the invasion, only the technological toys have taken their place.

When we look at the new world created in the film, we can not reach a lot of money, but it is possible to draw a rough frame. It is most likely an invasion from outside the world, who is the lucky invader, what is unknown. The susceptible, non-visual,
it is not clear what kind of creatures are covered with such thick armor that the outer surface can not be damaged by lead or cutting tools. It is not known whether they are making the invasion, or are they being used by the original invaders to destroy life forms in the world.
Since we have only seen the family live, we never go out of their living quarters. However, three or five fires burned in a similar way, seen by a family out in the night with a high tower, point out that there are survivors around. Also of course - also shown in the diagram-
probably because of the wife's death, we encounter the old man who has committed suicide by screaming because he does not want to live any more like this. We know from these data that there are still few survivors in the world, but how many people are living, how they live their lives.

Since there is hardly any dialogue, the use of music in the film that dominated your silence was kept to a minimum, but the high-volume spring attack used in the scare-jump scenes seemed a bit easy to escape. How effective is it, but how does the film create a tension that is so strong it does not need it anyway.

We call it big studio work. If we come to the topic of creature design; I do not like the fact that the forelegs are like insect pliers and the movement of the armor in the head like the opening and closing lids. The outer surface is completely covered with protective armor,
it is impressive that the structure can move very fast despite the weight of the armor (likely). In general, Starship Troopers (1997) reminds me of insect creatures, but I have to admit that it is still a separate air.

Alien (1979) comes at the head of films that are influenced by A Quiet Place.
The parallels between the struggle of the family, which can not go out of the sewing belt to make a noise with the survival struggle of a crew trapped inside a space ship, and which is trapped in a certain area, is clearly visible, it is also possible to arrange individual scenes between two films.
Also, the moments when he attacks the victims of the creature bring to mind the attacks of the shark in the movie Jaws (1975). The similarities are not so surprising, as both films are among the favorite films of screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods who wrote the original story.
A Quiet Place,
a horror movie likely to have a similar success to Get Out's (2017), a flash movie of the past year, that has come out of his head despite the hard work. Certainly, the films that should be watched in the movie theater;
you feel like you are part of a family under the threat of susceptible creatures while you are watching the film in an extremely quiet environment and you can even forget to breathe in order to avoid feeding creatures. A terrific experience!
In the meantime, Filmin was conceived of as a Cloverfield universe (as a sequel) but was later abandoned considering the potential for creating his own universe and the structure of his own sequels. Besides, Paramount is already talking about going green in a possible sequel.
