Anyway, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first feature film was Hercules in New York. It could be worse. Initially, the movie would be called "Hercules and bananas."
It turned out symbolic. After three consecutive victories in the "Mr. Universe" competition, Arnold decided to descend from the sports Olympus and climb the cinematic one. His hero Hercules, a demigod and son of Zeus, also decided to descend from Olympus and live among ordinary people. Zeus, dissatisfied with his son's behavior, sends Mercury after him, then Nemesis, who delegates the task to Pluto. Because of the machinations of Juno, Hercules temporarily loses divine power and becomes mortal, but all ends well.
Now the movie taken 48 years ago looks naive. The jokes in it are plain, the majority is based on the fact that Hercules talks about his life on Olympus, and no one believes him.
Fighting in the film is also so unnatural, as if it is intended to be shown in kindergartens. The grizzly bear, which Arnold fights against, looks frankly fake.
That, for the sake of which you can still watch the film, is the muscles of Arnold. If for the subsequent films Mr. Universe had to lose weight to look more like a “normal person”, then in “Hercules” he appears at the peak of his competitive form. After the release of the film, Arnold won the title of Mr. Universe for the fourth time, in addition, seven times he won the competition "Mr. Olympia."
Arnold admitted that Hercules in New York was his least favorite film. Due to a strong accent, he is voiced by another actor.
In the first film, Schwarzenegger’s branded phrase “I'll be back” does not sound (although it would be appropriate here, after all, Zeus is trying to get back from him), but Arnold is already playing with his biceps in front of a motion picture poster, like in “Gemini”. In this case, this is the poster of the movie "Hercules vs. Monster."
In the credits of the film, Schwarzenegger is presented under the pseudonym Arnold Strong.
