Ama Dablam - “Framed”

If you get to spend a bit of time in the high altitude Himalayas you soon start to appreciate the old Nepalese pilots adage that “we don't fly when there are clouds, because the clouds have rocks in them”. Peeking though the clouds here is the incredible spire of Ama Dablam at 6,812 metres (22,349 ft). Ama Dablam translates to "Mother's necklace" as the long ridges on each side are said to resemble the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. Shot on Fuji Velvia slide film. Nepalese Himalaya, Nepal . I took this after climbing up the mountain on the other side of the valley after a couple of weeks of arduous trekking.

I used this shot with different text as part of my very first (introduction) post on Steemit 2 months ago! I am re-posting to help promote #mountainsmonday in the new nature photo contest run by @shadalene ! I am also entering this in the ‘framed’ photo contest run by @claudiaz !

This is such a crazy good shot. The world opened up for you.

Thanks . Appreciate it !

Very Majestic! Cumulus granite.

Ha ! Yes indeed.

Wow, what a perfect little window to that amazing view. You must have had your finger on the shutter waiting for just the right moment.

Yes for sure; the clouds move in and out so quickly!

Wow. Now that's some amazing framing. Awesome shot!

wow really creative compositon ! I like what you did with this photo. good job

Thanks. It was a particularly arduous multi week hike to get to in a position to take it.

I have no complaints in seeing this photo again! :)

Cheers Derek. It has significant sentimental value to me as I climbed up the mountain on the other side of the valley after a couple of weeks of trekking and the clouds parted for me. Sometimes nature cooperates.

It has significant photographical value too, but the sentimental value is worth more!

that's a good adage :D

and a good photo

Thanks mate. I saw you went to Nepal on your last post. Which parts did you go to?

The clouds have rocks in them. yikes!

WOW! A window to heaven. I'm speechless. How long did you wait to take the shot?

Hey you should use this in @claudiaz 's new contest of framed

Thanks ! I just entered it so fingers crossed !

No need to cross the fingers. Your photo is perfect.

Not flying through clouds that have rocks in them sounds like a fantastic idea XD Seeing the top of a mountain through a hole in the clouds must have been spectacular in real life, the photo already looks pretty amazing.
