3D Printed Motorcycle
Technology is moving so quickly these days, it's exciting to watch. It's neat to think motorcycles could be printed by individuals, but to see interest/adoption at the manufacturer level is pretty awesome! Plastic prototypes have been in use for a while now, but BMW has really stepped it up here. This is exciting because we're no longer talking about farkles, we're talking about the backbone of the motorcycle;
What you see here is a complete frame and swingarm for the S1000RR, built from a process known as "metal powder laser melting" where the laser actually welds metal powder into solids to create your 3D print.
When do you think we will see our first production 3D printed motorcycle?
Really cool post! The world of 3D printing is very exciting because it opens up areas and removes design limitations, allowing engineers to design things that could never be made otherwise.

What happens when we have too many self driving cars? And you can't drive motorbikes except on a closed course?
I fear this day, I think about it more often than most I would assume. It's a natural progression for self-driving cars. Hopefully they will keep the autonomy to the freeways for many years to come.
Cross your fingers for at least not in our lifetime
I think for that system to work it would have to be 100% autonomous self drivers. Human error and whatnot. But I'll still cling to my guns and dinosaur burning internal combustion engines. By God.
