Suzuki x4 125 twin tuning from 16 bhp to 24 bhp 50% better, smiles more fun!

I bought this 2 years ago as a none runner, and took a chance it was not seriously damaged,
the price was right also at around £300 or 1,300 zl (Polish currency)
It arrived in lilac as pictured. DSC_0010.JPG

I repainted it in black, then opened up the engine, to a nice surprise, who ever had tried to repair it before fitted new pistons, and broke the rings on the left hand barrel, while putting it back together, the fix then was simple, both barrels re-bored and 2 new pistons, rings, little end bearings and a gasket set.

I ported the barrels, and changed the metal reeds for some faster reflex reeds from a Yamaha YZ 250 that I cut down to size, this was the only x4 or gt 125 that had reed valve intake control, and it was the last twin cylinder 125 they made sadly, moving to water cooled single cylinder engines in 1983, approximate gains 20% and a more aggressive power band.

The next thing to change was the performance draining exhausts , I cut the downpipes off and used some expansion chambers from a rd 250 / 350 approximate gain in bhp is 20%.

I then fitted some hi flow filters, these are the second set , and you may note I no longer run the autolube, choosing to premix instead.

The next step is to change the main jets in the spring, when I can do some plug chops, to get the mixture correct.

At the time of writing the bike has just had another set of pistons, rings and little end bearings for next season.

The rear suspension made it a lot more pleasant to ride, and corner, planning on replacing the whole front end soon, to fit some modern upside down forks/wheels.

The seat I covered myself, and the finished bike looks like this.

Hope you enjoyed my write up, I have a lot of motorbikes and would love to write about them all, if there is any interest on here?

It's lovely. I'd love to know more about bikes, I know next to nothing of engines and stuff :) I do dream of buying something like that in the future though, to learn and to tinker with it :)

hi, the best way to learn is buy a cheap and cheerful 2 stroke 125, easy to fix and repair, with the aid of a manual (most bikes manuals available online in pdf) , and loads of fun to ride, compared to boring 4 strokes, of the same capacity, go for it, you know you want to :-) and nice to meet you.

You're right I want to! Nice to meet you too :D

have a look at my post about vote power, it will help you in the future https://steemit.com/steemit/@deliberator/help-guide-for-us-newer-members
