Some bad news to fans of the Belgian MXGP team 24MX Honda. MPL Racing, who ran the team, have announced that they are shutting down the team at the end of November. They have tried very hard to establish a stable financial package for the team but have come up short. This is a sad day for MXGP and private teams all around Europe. It signals a change in the sport which is becoming more and more common as private teams are struggling to balance the books at this level of the sport.

Marc Boone

Team manager MPL Racing 24MX Honda

"Operating and running an MXGP team to the high standards we aspire to is getting increasingly difficult for a private team. Regrettably we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s too big of a challenge for our organisation to put in place a sustainable financial structure that would guarantee the long-term stability. I would like to thank Honda, 24MX, all our partners, riders and staff for their commitment and professionalism. Last but not least, thank you to all fans who showed us their support and friendship."

The 24MX team began in the late part of 2015 under MPL racing and the competed with riders like Damon Graulus, Ken De Dycker, Priit Rätsep, Steven Lenoir and Matiss Karro. Some of my regular readers will sadly recognize the name Steven Lenoir from one of my earlier posts here. With the help of your votes and through the power of #steemit we managed to raise $530, which was amazing and i thanked everyone in here.

There is a chance that MPL Racing will be able to join forces with an existing EMX250 or MX2 team but they are currently evaluating their options. Whatever happens the 24MX team will not be continuing in the MXGP 450 class.

Sad times but i thank all the riders, mechanics and team members for some amazing memories and i wish them all the success in the world in everything they move on to next, thank you.

:( yeah not good @sheikh27

Motocross has been a sport that has lived on the edge of the corporate money that dominate so many other sports and businesses. But it's clear it's becoming more and more prevalent, which leaves those in the sport without the big money unable to compete unless they become more creative. I suggest there's still plenty of opportunity in the creative realm to be successful because talent does still rule this sport.

I agree @mikeonfire, look at what Ronnie Mac did on that 98 2-stroke CR 250 at the Straight Rhythm a few weeks ago. Sure he is no chump (joke acting aside) and was a racer himself but the bike he was riding was technically inferior to his competition.
