God's intent is for us to be progressive that is, to keep on experiencing upgrades in every area of our lives (Romans 1:19-20). God wants us to improve on our performance, to get better forward and that's why the Bible repeatedly uses phrases like "from glory to glory", "shining brighter and brighter", "precept upon precept" etc. God is a God of order and of pattern. God expects us to progress in various facets and we'll be examining some of such below.

Knowledge
Progressing in the area of knowledge includes but is not limited to spiritual things. It also involves cecular things. Every good and perfect gift comes from God. The devil is not the source of any knowledge, he only tries to contaminate knowledge. The devil does not create anything, he only adopts, adapts and perverts things already created by God. God is the God of everybody and everything. Don't accept spiritual knowledge only and reject other truths; science, maths, design, art etc are truths! Find those you enjoy and learn all you can about them and you will progress and excel in your field. Your level of knowledge is dependent on your progressive capacity as a recipient. Develop yourself, have an open mind, be willing to learn.

Competence
Competent men are always made leaders (Genesis 47:6). See Joseph teaching the senators of Egypt wisdom. He had developed that competence when he spent time with several government officials in prison. He had learnt to reason like them, understand them and teach them. We often feel that grace will compensate slothfulness and so we don't put time nor effort to becoming competent in our area of specialization. Grace works differently though. If you worked for a 30% appraisal and you were scored 40%, you have enjoyed grace because it is more than you deserve. However if you worked for a 75% score, grace can give you 90%! Both scenarios have enjoyed grace but only to the extent to which they were competent. So work harder and commit to increasing competence daily and the grace will speak very loudly on your behalf.

Capacity
Faithfulness is a major key to building capacity (2 Timothy 2:2). When you are faithful in another man's work either through or volunteering or simply as an employee, you are gradually building capacity for your own. It is wise to work with people who are already doing what you want to do better in order to learn from them and develop capacity to handle such on your own.

Strategy
God is a God of strategy. Don't do things without planning! God has already planned the end of time from the beginning. We need to learn that there is a strategy for every single thing. God is a master planner and strategist (2 Chronicles 20:20) and we are supposed to be strategic thinkers just the same. What do you want to do and how best can you go about it? What would you require for the immediate as well as for the future to make you goal a reality? Think, plan, prepare.

Covenant Practices
Beware to take heed of such practices. Take for example, giving, as a Covenant practice. What is the power that God has given us to create wealth? (Deuteronomy 8:18, 2 Corinthians 9:10). The power wealth creation power is in recognizing and planting the seed. He gives us seed to sow and bread to eat while waiting for the seed to grow. Don't eat your seed along with your bread. With every Covenant comes commitment. God will always honor his Covenant as long as you also do your part. So whether you need to give your tithe, or give to the less privileged or invest in a business, or save some of your income, do it faithful and God will honor His side of the bargain by increasing your wealth.
